New to Android. Want a better dialer.

Hi,
I am relatively new to Android having recently just got a OnePlus 6. One thing that is urking me though is the phone dialer that comes with the OS is a little lacking in basic features (i.e. I cannot for the life of me find out how to sort contacts by first name rather than the default last name).

Coming from Apple's iOS and not having to worry about what apps to use for things like dialing, SMS and all the other basics that you cannot change on iOS, I am a little wary of installation random apps from the Play store.

So yeah, can anyone recommend a decent dialer to use on my OnePlus 6?

Try going into the contacts app, then it's normally under the 3 little dots, then choose settings, there you can change how to sort contacts but first or last name etc...?
 
Thanks guys. I installed Google's version of Contacts and disabled the version that came with the OnePlus, after removing Google's verison and re-enabling OP's and then rebooting, it seems to have fixed it... but there are threads on the OP forums saying that this did not work for them so I am kind of expecting it to go belly up again.

Hardware wise there is not really much point comparing phones these days... the 1080p screen is perfectly adequate having virtually equal PPI as the iPhone 8 Plus that I came from. Anyone who says they could tell the quality between a 1080p screen and a 1440p on a phone either has amazing eyesight or is just lying to themselves (my opinion of course).

Software is the biggest difference though. With iOS, Apple is basically telling you how to use your phone and what you can...or what is more the case, what you cannot do. iOS is nice, usually runs smooth and is functional. I started getting wound up by the fact that I was being forced to use Safari if I wanted to be able to sync my bookmarks between my iPhone and MacBook Pro - where I would rather have used Chrome on both. Apple allows Chrome for Windows to sync with iCloud bookmarks, but they never made that extension available for the macOS version of Chrome.

So coming to Android for the first time (yes, I had never used an Android phone, period - being a iPhone user since 2007), it was a bit overwhelming the amount of control I had over what my phone could do. I can easily understand now why iOS is the preferred phone for those of a limited technological understanding.

For me though, how Apple tell you how to use their products and make it nigh on impossible to use anything but their ecosystem, coupled with how they're treating their customers with out of warranty repairs for manufacturing defects (i.e. the touch disease problem, the dodgy keyboards on the new MacBook) and their high and increasing prices for their computers that feature outdated hardware just made me want to leave Apple behind.

I used to be exclusively Apple, now the only Apple product in my house is my other half's iPhone.
