Hi there

Does anybody know if something like this exists,

I am looking for something like a magnetic car cover but not for the whole car, just one side

Because I park in a supermarket car park 40 hours a week, just in 1 or 2 weeks I've had 2 new scratches on the car.

Good thing is, i can park at the back against the wall behind me and on one side of the car, so people are not walking through past my car, but of course a car gets parked next to me like every 20 mins sometimes

so im wanting to protect one side, something i can pull out of from the back seat and quickly attach to the car

Thanks

This is a tricky one given it'll be removed and refitted constantly, I think there's potential that it'll do more harm than good. See also bonnet bras.

An expensive option would be to go for some paint protection film (ppf). Less expensive if you do it yourself, but much trickier. Wouldn't stop the scratches, but would stop them damaging your paint. If you go for the really expensive option you can get self-healing ppf too.

can you park in the obvious vicinity of a camera, with either posssibility of recovering coverage if needed, or indicating to other cars liklihood of being filmed, something in the window ?
identify other cars similarly parked for many hours and decide to park adjacently

On the assumption you work there, can't you get a colleague to park next to you?

Remember seeing a picture of an Impreza hatch once with just a piece of string running from the back door handle to the wing mirror and then those foam tubes over it.
Protects against door dings and might highlight to people to be more careful around it (who am I kidding)? Also easy to chuck in an out of rear seat.

Get some cones and put them in the space next to you, most people won't question them and will just avoid the space.

You could erect a fake "wet paint" sign too :p

I saw this on a 3 series at Tesco the other day. Part of his attachment method was cable ties on the door handles that were left in place. Way more unsightly than a door ding! To be honest my first thought was that people would simply see that and then not worry about opening their door into the foam which relies on the assumption that the contact point isn't significantly higher or lower than the foam and resulting in hitting their car anyway.

Many years ago my wife worked at Tesco and despite being super careful about where she parked her car got beat up over the years and that was an old Polo with the chunky door strips. While I don't work in a supermarket my work car gets abuse from a mix of school/college car parks, Premier Inns (no matter where I park I find a beat up Transit next to it) and motorway service stations. You can stress about it or give up caring, the net result ends up being the same.

There are 'official' door protectors, google "Doordefender magnetic removable car door protection" - these sound similar to the items mentioned above, but are magnetic, the wire between them is to stop someone nicking them!... They even get some good reviews.

The problem with anything like this is just how far do you go with it. Of the last three marks my car picked up only one was a typical door dent which one of those would have stopped. The others were one on the rear arch (pretty sure it was an SUV and kiddie seat combo) and a double tap hit on the front wing that looked like someone used my car as a convenient way of stopping their shopping trolley rolling away.

Can't you get your employer to designate some areas as employee parking only? TBH as mentioned above none of this really works. My son last years had a summer job in Currys and on the weekends he would take the wifes car, there was an area, well away for the main car park that all employees used, on that day the guy parked next to him had a half and my son came back to dent on the drivers side passenger door. Seemed that with the space a shopper decided to park there and also ding the wifes car. Unfortunately, CCTV didn't cover that are and my wifes car still had the ding on a crease line so difficult to fix.

Go full A-Team mode! Old steel wheels welded to the front, armour plate the sides, and pintle mount a flamethrower on the roof! All done using oxy-acetylene torch and some auld chisels.
