*** The official 2018 MacBook Pro thread (it has six cores and everything!) ***

windows OS have come a long way and imo now on par with osx.

My main desktop is windows based and has been for years. I hae never had to reformat my desktop since i first slapped on windows 8 and then upgraded to windows 10 and still boots like a champ and stable as a rock.

You really cant go wrong with windows anymore equipped with nice hardware.

Yeah but Windows 10 just isn't as pretty. Windows Vista/7 is still the best looking of all the Windows OS. Aero was beautiful. Shame they ditched it for this boring tablet look they have now.
They should have at least two options - this plain, flat look they are using now for low-powered PCs, tablets, phones, etc. and a snappy-whiz-bang-flash look which can utilise a PC GPU for all kinds of fancy effects like transparency, etc.

its pretty i like the toolbar now and the launcher. Also feel that windows explorer is far better then osx finder and has been since the dawn of time .

what i dont like about the finder is that when you try to search for a file, it never correctly works properly and the overall UI is not as clean and simple as in the file explorer in windows.

Setting up env variables is also SOOOOO MUCH easier on windows, i am shocking that its not simple in osx. You need to add env variables through the terminal!!

One thing thats superior on OSX is the terminal. better then windows command line which you cant rely for dev work and need something like Putty or an external command ike batch program for whatever you are doing(php, git etc)

Yep, totally agree.
Windows 10 is easily the equal of a Mac OS, heck 7 was.

If setup right then windows is fine to use and tends to be quite secure (within reason lol)

I think Windows 10 is a great OS, but the reason I prefer Apple laptops is the hardware. The touchpad alone is worth a lot. It boggles my mind how Windows laptop manufacturers create such truly awful trackpads.

Apple hardware is rather poor, the human / machine interfaces are good which makes mac use feel superior but the actual underlying hardware is normally a generation out at least.
You can get good mice/trackballs and other input devices for normal PC's if you pay for it.

And yes i agree about windows explorer being better than finder, i have never got on with finder at all.
The windows command line is far behind powershell which also comes with 10 so use that if you want a much stronger CLI

We have our work laptops docked at our desks with desktop monitors, keyboards and mice. It’s when you’re away from your desk with just the trackpad for input that the frustration creeps in.

I wouldn’t personally use Windows laptop trackpads in my personal life. It’s Apple trackpads or bust!

I never use trackpads anyway. On my MBP and on my Lenovo I use a Logitech MX Anywhere, very nice mouse.

I use the trackpad when using the laptop for the everyday things and for some games where the controls allow it easily. I use an MX Anywhere 2 for most other games and when using Windows.

The tight interoperability on Mac between mobile and desktop OS devices is impressive.

Being able to message/call/video message seemlessly between devices, aswell as pick up tasks you were doing on a Mac on iPad/iPhone is really useful.

I use this a lot too. Start browsing on one device and pick up where I left off on another. I also text a lot from my laptop.

When I had an iPhone and MBP, I would use this a lot. However, now I have a Windows desktop and laptop, and everyone uses WhatsApp, I can message using their WhatsApp desktop app the same as iMessage.

Still on a 15" late 2013 MBP here and it still feels quick. I'll probably pick up another next year but in no rush to lose magsafe, SD card slot and a decent keyboard :p

Same here. I like shiny new things but there's literally nothing it doesn't do just as well as the day I bought it. I think prices are way to high now for me now anyway. My plan in the distant future is possibly to pick up an imac for work related things and keep my late 2013 rmbp to pick up work while I'm away from my desk.

the trackpad on my razer blade stealth is brilliant

Is that a Microsoft Precision trackpad? I tried a Dell XPS 15 about 2 years ago which I believe had a precision trackpad, but it was still poor in comparison to my MBP. I would like to think Microsoft have improved them since then though!

yea it has a precision trackpad. its really nice. the first good one i used was the surface pro 4 one i had.

I had that device but got rid of it after two RMA's where it stopped charging.

It’ll be a good few years before I’m looking for a new laptop now but I’ll definitely check out the precision trackpad ones.

Precision is just a standard or feature set that it has to have in order to meet the label. The trackpads themselves can be made by anyone with any size, material etc. So some Precision trackpads will be better than others.

The Dell one is ok but the SB2 one I have is loads better

Do the precision trackpads have a forward/backward gesture now? This was by far the biggest thing I missed when I tried the Dell.
