I have a maximus hero vii that's dead. Won't boot, no lights on the start button only lights on the on board graphics.

Is it possible that the cause could be a bios chip.

Is there anything I can do to try fix this or somewhere I can send it to be fixed?

Capacitors look in tact and okay visually.

Thanks

If it's still in warranty (3 years on Asus boards) then you need to start a RMA with the place you purchased it from. Don't let them fob you off with you have to go through the manufacturer as that is not the case. Asus and a few other manufacturers do not deal with the end user and the whole of the warranty period is through the retailer the item was purchased from.

Have you tested the psu or tried a different psu?

It's definitely the mobo. It's 3.5 years old so it’s out of warrantee, just thinking is there anything I can try to get the board running again before I buy a second hand one, or is there a better alternative to this board.

If the motherboard is dead then you probably want to upgrade platform, finding used motherboards that arn't stupid money is difficult and if you sell the CPU you'll only spend little outlay for a whole new setup, with a tad more performance.

I was told I would be spending a lot of money and not gaining a lot.

ATM...

4790k
16gb ram ddr3
Maximus hero vii but that’s dead. Got it running on a £40 cheapo mobo atm.

An upgrade would net you very little in real terms considering the cost of buying DDR4, cpu and Mobo.

Might be worth looking at refurbished or second hand via the rainforest for another Hero VII. (I am about to make the jump myself from the same combo)
