Leg broken in 12 places and laid up in hozzy!

I'm cracking on with it as best I can but while I haven't trained in a long time, moving my leg is the hardest work out I've ever done. It's getting stronger, day by day, but can I raise it off the bed; hell no.

People keep talking to me about claiming for criminal damages and that I should be doing it now. Does anyone know anything about this stuff?

I don't want a solicitor who's going to rip me off. Can I even make a claim while the investigation is still going? Is it cica I go to first or some other avenue?

@Vidar I went down the medical negligence route last year after the issues I encountered when I was doing time with the NHS, I reached out to Slater & Gordon, Irwin Mitchell and Bindmans. My uncle is a solicitor and recommended those as they are ones he has dealt with on a number of occasions with success.

Main piece of advice I can give, make sure you keep a log of absolutely everything, with dates and times and any names of people if possible.

This shizzle sounds awful Vidar, chin up chap. Nowhere near what you're going through but got hooked on codeine after a back injury, I'd say avoid that stuff, but tbh not taking painkillers just leads to more problems as your body will compensate for the pain in weird and unhelpful ways. Get well soon.

Make sure the full extent of your injuries are known before you start any proceedings.

Slater & Gordon and Irwin Mitchell are two I deal with on a daily basis. Also Scott Rees & Fletcher's. Those 4 keep me in a job.

So its been an interesting 48hrs to put it bluntly. A few things have happened, most noticeably being visited by the council telling me that the hospital is trying to dump me into a rehab facility that can't actually rehabilitate me. Essentially the doors are too narrow for some of the equipment I require while not being able to bare weight. So under the hospitals plans they'd stretcher me into a room approximately 11ft by 12ft which would barely be large enough for me and my equipment and then leave me in there unable to actually use the facilities. Everything done in that room which won't be more than what I get here. Thats before you consider health and safety such as a fire on the premises.

Yeah, I won't be going anywhere!

I've been told it could a year to get my leg as normal as it can be, it all depends on how well rehab goes for me. Still can't put weight down for another 5 and a half weeks.

No point flipping my lid at the end of the day it won't get me anywhere and I'm doing my best with the pain killers, frustrating thing is I can't manage my physio without at least the tramadol which I'd rather not take at all.

so five week before the splint comes off ? i had to use one of those massive boot things after 5 weeks when i did my ankle was meant to be for 4 weeks i tossed it after 2 weeks it was holding me back. as for the criminal injuries claim afaik time limit is 2 years from the incident date to start a claim so no rush on that score.

Not sure if the splint comes off but I am allowed to put weight on it. Your post gives me some hope, thank you.

While I'm not best pleased with most of the care I've had during my time here I've no intention of pursuing compensation from them. Clinical negligence seems abit extreme, general carelessness which hopefully stops as of today is much more

Did you get a resolution to your satisfaction with pals for your initial concerns with your treatment or now going down compensation route?

My care has been mostly better since speaking to pals so am happy to leave it at that for now anyway. I reallyddon't want to take money from an already cash strapped hospital.

If it doesn't get better then write to Complaints and you will eventually get a Letter of Response which is great to have if it goes further.
When a patient puts a claim in it's one of the very first things I look for.
The PALS will be logged but it's normally all verbal.

So I heard from the detective in charge tonight, they got two hits on the database from the dna. Turns out they're brothers. One has been interviewed today the other tomorrow. It makes me very happy there's been such a development.
