Building new PC in a month or 2.

Might as well wait another week or so even if B450 doesn't look like it will be a massive improvement (VRM wise) over B350. At least you can see what pricing is like etc.

Advice is to wait.
B450 boards are coming out soon, and you can get 2700/X with b450.
Also there's a 32inch IPS 1440p 75hz with freesync (for £220!) coming out at the end of the month
You can pair that with the rx580 8gb and that's you sorted for quite a while

that panel does look good.. but z390 might be out by then :) expensive but hopefully drive prices competitively all around

depends on brand, Aorus Pro is a massive difference over Gaming 3... should be same price with Wifi on top £90-105 area

Your also won't have to go through the rigmorale of having to update your BIOS with a either a first gen chip or a dummy CPU form AMD.

I think the ones that are Ryzen 2xxx ready have a sticker on the front of the box. Unless you are unlucky and get a really old stock item then it should be fine. Not sure if ocuk offer a bios flash service but that would be another option as well.

I'm happy to consider b450, but just figured I could push the cpu hard, and upgrade in 3 years to whatever amd released in 2020.

What's the monitor??? I've got to work on it, and 32 sounds ridiculously huge for that, but I'd get used to it...

AOC Q3279VWFD8

32 isn't that big (that what she said)
I've got the MVA version released last year.
Perfect size IMO. Can't see myself using anything less than that. Work's 24 inch panels seem miniscule in comparison lol

32" is nice for 1440p , 4k screen 40" is ideal etc , 25" is max for 1080p

all about getting that pixel size right for screen size, resolution and how far you sit from a given screen. 27" 1080p you can see pixels clearly and jagged edges on screen unless you apply high filters to smooth them out , which in turn eats FPS blah blah .

to small screen with high res or sitting to far away and its like looking at a lower resolution screen

I have to say, I think I'm getting convinced... it's a basic model I guess, but it's got every feature I want. It's just huge... guess I can have two browsers open next to each other and have good real estate on each...

Going to have to really consider where exactly I'm going to be working with that thing though!

damn, B450 already listing up

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B450-AORUS-PRO-rev-10#kf

@lee32uk 8+3 set up- will have to hunt down IR units used but looking MUCH stronger. guessing lessor IR to keep price down from X470 as they have same phase count
though Gigabyte version looks to be the same lower end set up for B350 - guessing will keep pricing to £70 odd

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B450-F-GAMING/

strix looks 6+2/7+1 . X470 was 8+2 so makes sense

Just going off a buildzoid video. He didn't seem that impressed with most of them.

depends on the price, if he's expecting a lot or higher qualit materials on the cheap... wont happen - least it has option to be overclocked :D

I don't think he mentions cost, but things like vrm don't seem to be any better from what I made of it. His voice is a bit irritating (Not on the Linus scale) but there is some good info.

OK, so here's my basket. Filler used in the monitor, for what should be a similar price to the 32 inch monstrosity (should be released end of this month right?).

Will consider swapping the b350 for the b450 if/when released in time. Decided to go with the 1700. I realise the 2600x is a similar price (or even cheaper), but I don't think the 1700 is going to be a serious limiting factor regardless, and the extra cores are probably going to be useful if I'm doing some video editing/streaming/recording. Taking into account that some items may be available for a little less elsewhere, this looks like it should come back to the £1200 budget I set myself, or at least damn close. Then in 3+ years, I can look to upgrade, though some parts may end up being donated to my boy, who'll be around 10 then.

The motherboard has support for 5 PWM fans, so the 3 pack I'm buying should be fine, but could someone clarify if the 2 fans included in the case will be a problem, surely it shouldn't be? I was planning 3 on the front (in), 1 on the back, and one on the top (both out). Should hopefully result in positive air pressure.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,276.16 (includes shipping: £15.30)

Current core system

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £554.46 (includes shipping: £10.50)

vs bundle deal (Vastly better board all around for sound and VRM and support)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £630.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

pricing £60 plus which can be clawed back a little, 650w for rx580 is a little overkill , powered a 1080ti fine though

£35 quid more

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,310.20 (includes shipping: £15.30)

10 yr warranty on PSU , save more cash drop to non modular Formula 550w, Antec version is out of stock at £73.

case are personal taste to hard to spec for

MSI b450 boards havent changed as much, asus have a little and Aorus has done a massive upgrade. B450 features same Phase set up as X40 Board

What's the advantage to the 2 140mm vs the 3 120s? Price is virtually identical, the 120mm can shift more air apparently (albeit slightly louder, but three of them running at a lower speed should work well no?). I've no idea how much sound is going to bother me to be honest!

PSU, I was looking at potentially having something that can handle a later, beefier GPU, in a few years time. Also considering trying to do a bit of overclocking, so again, PSU needs to cope. But if a 550W would be enough for all that, then I'm happy to save a few pennies!

Bundle looks tempting though, definitely a good price, though the hard drive is not as good.

Only listed 2x 140 as case cant handle 3x 120mm .

case that good, has good airflow at the front as well and keeps cost down again

650w is great if you know your going to stick a flagship Vega or Nvidia in 2 years time, amd will already be on a node shrink and 2 years time Nvidia should be on the same 7nm , next gen is 12nm vs amd 7nm

focus 650w is £90, Antec is £80 but out of stock and both have 10/7 yr warranty vs EVGA 5

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/seas...plus-gold-modular-power-supply-ca-05q-ss.html

SSD not as good, but least you can always add it in- techincally its not truely free, value is £90 odd but bundle covers £60 of it

If your looking to boost GPU performance in 2 odd years, get a 1440p 144hz MSI monitor now, £410 or AOC version can be found for £350 .

Hmm, I like the look of that bundle, I have to admit. Would it be better to take a good x370 board over a b450 though? Would the b450 not better support the advantages of the 2XXX series? Or is it all bios updates?

Can see the sense in downgrading to the 550W, saves a few pennies. As for the case, I can get the Mesh C for £10 less in the rainforest, and it comes with an extra fan anyway, and from what I've read, it gets rave reviews as a great all rounder?

EDIT - Out of interest where are people looking to buy the AOC Q3279VWFD8?

its a very good case.

B450 has the feature to use StoreMI and some vendors took a chance to beef up VRM count.

Aorus 450 has 8+3 phase count where older b350 gaming 3 was like 5+2 if i recall, something quite low
X370 k7 is 6+4 phase count - Guessing IR are a slightly higher model (like X470 aorus 7 is over Ultra/5 to keep costs down)

Is there any difference between ram speeds and clock speeds between the motherboards? Or is that all bios/CPU based?
