Buying new fridge freezer

Open door alarm is just a nuisance when cooking. I know the ******** door is open, I'm going to put this <insert food item> back and get something else.

Don't think I've ever forgotten to close the fridge, and the timeout between opening and it sounding means if I were in a rush somewhere I'd be gone by the time it starts crying

what's the attraction of metal backing ... it eventually rusts ? and plastic is a better insulator ... presumably the condensor coil is still visible.

mistakes I've made is fridge not big enough in split units ... so 70/30 all the way, can always get a small freezer in the garage or elsewhere .

quite like gorenge as a make eg
they make a lot of stuff for others and had bought up asko ( my washing machine from them is >10years in)

no, the coil is completely covered. and this is why plastic backed fridges are a bad idea.

Anyone know if appliancesdirect are as good as AO with delivery?

No complaints here. We used them 12 years ago to deliver all our kitchen appliances and again a few months ago to deliver a double oven, microwave & cooker hood. No problems at all.

One minor niggle was that they insisted on unpacking the oven to photograph it as proof of undamaged delivery. Since I wasn't fitting it for a few weeks and had a house full of builders I'd rather have left it fully protected, but it's their policy and a pretty understandable one so I can't really class it as a negative.

^^ That's a beauty PaDE. I had a play with one those, absolutely amazing with the media screen.

After much thought and a process of elimination, I've made my decision and am going to wait for restock of this one. https://ao.com/product/rb403n4ac2-hisense-fridge-freezer-stainless-steel-27927-28.aspx

It's perfect for me, Looks great, has all the space I want, all the features I want, two fridge drawers, 60/40 split with more freezer space than I'll ever fill, is the maximum size I'm happy to have and is A++ rated so a tad more economical than an A+. I've registered for an email notification for when it's back in stock, and I called AO yesterday who were very helpful and said they're getting restock on the 10th August which is 2 weeks earlier than appliancesdirect, and with this knowledge I'm ahead of the queue as there will be limited stock coming in. He said to call them first thing on the 10th to order. So short of anything going wrong with their restocking, I should get this delivered in 3 weeks. It's a bit of a pain having to wait so long as I want a fridge now but there isn't any other that makes me excited enough to own in my price range.

Do these/most have one or two compressors ? what is the state of play.

5 year warranties seem less available as a default too (after a tv and washing machine would put fridge/freezers warranty as useful)

Don't know about compressors, I imagine the one I'm getting probably has just one. The Grundig fridges come with a 5 year parts and labour but the one I was interested in when I first started looking in had no features to speak of apart from an anti bacterial lining. The Samsung fridges I think all have 10 year compressor warranties and some have a 5 year manufacturer warranty.

I just got new which guide which has articles on fridge freezers ☺️.

Best freestanding was Kenwood knf60x17
Best integrated was John Lewis JLBIFF1811

If that's any help!

That Kenwood was the one I was going for until I saw the Hisense. But like Beko who owns Grundig, I have a feeling there's an association between Kenwood and Hisense as I noticed the door balcony shelves in both have an identical embossed pattern underneath and are also uniquely deeper than in all other fridges.

I've just ordered my Hisense fridge freezer from them, delivery this Friday 27th. I looked at appliancesdirect website again last night which had originally said they're expecting stock August 24th, but all of a sudden they're in stock again. I called ao.com last saturday who told me 10th to 12th August and called them again just now who said they can't give me a definite that it'll be in then. So I've paid £6 more for appliancesdirect and joined Which magazine trial offer for a £1 which gave me £15 off the fridge. I've made a note to cancel the subscription before the month ends!

So if anyone wants me to look up a review on something, let me know and if it's in the mag I'll paste it here. :)

So did Which not see through that
(I guess we will have to wait until his subscription kicks in ... they used to have 3 month trials - had been waiting for one of those

Are kenwood (apart from mixers and hifi) owned by currys ?

The Kenwood one we were looking at turned out to be made by Hisense, just rebranded to sell in Currys at a higher price. Wouldn't be surprised if that happened with more of their models...

Ah, cool, there you go then. That's what I was saying in post #29, that I thought there might be an association between those companies.

Which forums, never thought of that. I shall check them out. :)
I did read somewhere that Currys have some sort of exclusivity with Kenwood. Not sure they're owned by them as Currys have their own crappy Logik brand, but possibly they have some deal with Kenwood.

So I received the fridge freezer on Friday from appliancesdirect, it came through my sash window. The delivery men left it in my front room as they thought it would be too awkward to manoeuvre at the kitchen end of my hall without risking scratching it. He said he's got insurance and has to cover any damage himself. So he didn't want to chance it. He's got a point, it definitely doesn't look easy to get through. I do wonder though from what others here said, if AO would have gone the extra mile and tried a bit harder than these guys. So I'm waiting on my builder to come and take it around and through a couple of gardens.

Anyway, until it's moved, I plugged it in for the first time today. Looks great inside and out, nice led lighting strips down both sides. Fridge is working nicely, getting to the right temps.

But already there's a problem. I've got an engineer coming on Monday. The door alarm icon is meant to light up after 2 minutes along with a buzzer sound. The icon lit up after 2 minutes but there's no buzzer sound. Not a good start.
