Taxed the car online today

Tbh I thought that's how it worked, the system already sends out reminds surely a fine is an easy addition to this?
They were claiming that’s what will happen but I think it was just scaremongering because they don’t seem to be able to stop the big increase in un taxed vehicles on the road. As I say I’ve worked with numerous chavs and women over the last year that haven’t been bothered or forgot to pay there tax and nothing has happened.
Here’s a link to a random newspaper with similar stats

There's no doubt that the current system is the easiest it's ever been. You know what would be even easier? A few extra p on fuel. Then the people that do the miles pay the tax and those who don't, don't *grumbles at his £555 road tax bill for only doing 2,000 miles per year*.

No No No No No No - you do not want road tax on fuel - look what happens with decimalisation - add a penny here add a penny there - ok except a penny was twice as much as it was. Put tax on fuel and you have a easy way to raise taxes - Look at changing from gallons to liters - they only put 5p a liter on fuel - but that works out at 22p a gallon - there would have been a outcry is that had happened -

Adding tax to fuel only benefits people who get fuel allowance - us plebs always have to pay through the nose - Petrol only went up because those that used the most didn't pay for it. - I said to a mate once -petrol has gone up 5p - he just rocked his head from side to side and said - "does it look as if I care" No - company car right.

One thing to be kept in mind is where would they pitch the tax at - if the average person pays £200 a year and they do 10k miles and gov pitches it so that person paid £220 a year then it's no benefit for the lower wage earners but remember next year they put 10p on a liter and it will soon stack up - you are creating a money machine.

That's how I see it anyway.

Gotta love the tax hike on cars with a list price over 40k... an extra 310pa (only for 5 years)

But after the first 5 years people will be driving v8s for £147 tax? :P

They need to stop retroactively pumping up tax for cars under the old systems though :/
