Early in the month i purchased from OC an 1080ti strix. I had an 970 Strix in the past, a great little card for sure. Like many of you iv'e been building Gaming Rigs for many years and have a good understanding of the process, best practices/troubleshooting ect.
My current system is an average i7,1150,DDR3, 1080ti and a 40'' LED based rig, its no spring chicken, yet, its stable and gets the job done.

Gigabyte Gaming 3 (1150) latest beta bios.
Corsair HX850I 850W.
i74770k Haswell.
16GB Vengence Ram
2X SSD
40'' LED TV.

Fitted 1080ti and then it started:

*On Start/Restart No HDMI signal, had to use recovery options to load windows 10.
*Nvidia drivers would not install without problems.
*Random reboots.

Addition hardware used to test: Tried combinations of MB,PSU,RAM ect.

MSI Z871 Mothervboard.
Corsair 750w psu.
8GB 1600 Ram
Issues:

* Nvidia Control Panel vanishes, if i try to enable it refuses to run.
* Geforce Experience displays error and refuses to work.
Tried all combinations of the above hardware with unsatisfactory results.

Checked Bios, made sure 1080ti was default . Unclocked CPU and performed all the basics including: Safe mode/Recovery modes, fresh install of Windows 10 (1709 and 1803). DDU, various versions of drivers, multipe HDMI cables, DP to HDMI cable, all HDMI ports. stripped everything back to bare minimum. I am of the opinion there is something happening, it should work 'out of the box', a bad factory clock?...dont know. Anyways RMA'ed the card and its on its way back, shame, but there we are.

I think the most likely thing here is that the graphics card is not seated correctly or it's faulty. I have not heard or seen an issue with the gaming 3 and the 1080ti. I certainly have used both Strix 970's and Strix 1070's in those boards without any issue. I would return it to OC for testing before it does any more damage to your system.

The only thing you have changed here is the card. Make sure your mobo BIOS is upto date first but i would advise returning the card. I have a Strix OC 1080ti on a Z68 board and ive not seen any of these issues but i had to update my BIOS when a bought my 580 a few years ago.....

Did you keep the 970 to try in system and see if it has any issues? If you have RMA'ed the new card then we can't do much until you get it or another back

Yeah i was suprised, yet when i seated the 1050ti back in both boards...no issues. Nvidia CP reapeared, Geforce Experience worked?. Pc components are very hardy, if they work, they generally keep working. I was fed up playing Nvidia's mind games and took the plunge for a 1080ti. see how this plays out.

Thought it only polite to bring you up to speed, RMA'd the Strix to O/C on Mon/23, and recieved a replacement card Fri/27, well pleased. tested the in the 'Gigabyte Gaming 3 mb', and everything seems Ok. O/C's excellent all round service and support made the whole process easy. Thanks all.

I have the same gfx card but I’ve not had as bad a time with it as you.

Did you ever experience sudden black screens but the system kept running ?

I doesn’t happen often but it is really annoying when it does , worried if I rma it they won’t be able to replicate the issue and it will come back
