So I was sorting out various house and car insurances and it got me thinking as I was listing things what are the most valuable things you own in monetary terms? For home owners the top one is usually obvious but beyond that I was wondering what others had differently, so if computer stuff came higher up than me given the forum we’re on. I’m not interested in the absolute value as otherwise it’ll become a “mine is bigger than yours thread” but just what appears on the list and in what relative order. For the sake of argument let’s call finance where you intend to pay off the entirety as you owning it (so loans and mortgages OK) but not renting/leasing and use your replacement value like-for-like as a guideline I guess.

So for my wife and I it’s:
  1. The house
  2. The main car
  3. Her engagement ring
  4. Our sofa
  5. Her wedding ring
  6. My wedding ring
  7. An armchair
  8. Her diamond earrings
  9. The second car
  10. Our dining table
I like gadgets and stuff but realised putting the list together that when it comes to spending cash on single items my hobby is nowhere near the top. It also made me realise why I always ensure I have ‘away from home’ cover on my contents insurance for all my wife’s jewellery!

This thread will go well, I await Pscyho Sonny's contribution on how you can get most things for bottom dollar that are just as good.

10. Y Fronts

Well that’s the thing. I thought about what it was like for me 10 and 20 years ago and my priorities were very different hence just being interested. I also think about the folks I work with and their priorities are vastly different to when I was their age. For example my house would have been no. 1 when I was 23 as well, but some of the 23 year olds who I work with would definitely have clothing and cars ahead of that because it’s so damn hard to start on the housing ladder now.

She most likely written out that exact same list of stuff she would get if she leaves you...:p

House
My second car (my main car is currently broken so worthless)
My watch
My PC
My laptop
Various clothes

Err, that's about it. I don't actually own much of value.

1. Cheese in the fridge. Absolutely priceless here.

After that, probably 4 guitars in terms of items that have any value. Then my laptop, phone, and anything beyond that is more or less just sentimental value.
