Car issue from garage what would you do?

So my S2000 has a niggle they've not 100% figured it out yet however the main technician goes on holiday today for a week.

They've said the car will be ok to drive for the next week while he is away as long as I have a light foot and dont go hitting vtec. They believe its something to do with the Fueling of the car but not 100% sure on what exactly.

On the phone I agreed to drive the car for the next week but sitting back and thinking, should I really drive it without knowing 100% what the issue is? its causing misfires and putting the EML on with the potential to cause more harm to the car.

They don't have courtesy cars so that's out the question but wandering what you would consider reasonable to ask?
 
If it's something that has the potential to cause further damage and yet they've said it's fine to drive, would they accept responsibility if something major does go pop?

I'd be inclined to either take it elsewhere or park it up and get a dirt-cheap hire car for the week.

read the codes, Misfires on 1 and 3
they've had the car a full day running diagnostics on it and checking everything and he says its pretty confident its the fuel pressure or similar but couldn't say 100% what part of it all is causing the issue.

Its a great car apart from this little issue and for the sake of driving it a week I don't want to cause long term problems

Looked at hire cars being under 30 means no dirt cheap hire cars around
 
I'm seeing £27 per day for an Aygo from Enterprise whether I set the age as 28 (as per your profile) or 30+

No family or friends you can borrow a car from?

If they've diagnosed it as likely fuel pressure issues then I wouldn't be driving it around with the potential of it getting worse and running dangerously lean, or just conking out completely (if the fuel pump dies or something) having to be recovered.
 
Can you read/clear codes yourself? Swap the coil packs around to see if the misfires move, that'll implicate those.

Also, fill it up with some decent fuel and see if that helps and if not, look at the injectors (swap them around see if the codes swap to different cylinders). If running lean is causing the misfire I wouldn't drive it, potential for issues there.

I had a similar issue with my Focus a while back. DPF was faulty but they wouldn't change it for a few days but said whilst it could cause lasting damage, they thought it would be fine. When I asked them if they would drive it in the state it was in for a few days they all said no so I said if I did, they would pay for any damage caused as a result. They soon gave me a courtesy car, might be worth seeing if you can get something similar but you'll need to stand your ground and make sure they understand that they'll be held accountable if something goes pop as you drove under their guidance
 
I was there when the codes were read, had the AA out as well.

Coil packs have been tested all new spark plugs installed

Just rang them again to express my concerns and they said they will take responsibility if anything does happen, but want me to stay out of VTEC range which is fine as I only need to get too and from work however all they have to do is say I was driving too hard when advised not too. Wednesday I can borrow the wife car so I think I will chance it.

I can rent a car for £172 for two weeks which seems like a sensible option covers me whilst the car is being repaired also. Might argue they should pick the tab up for this

I’d get this in writing, all well and good them saying they’ll cover any issues very different trying to get them to do so should the worst happen.

Honda are idiots and anything they say should be down in writing. I’d get a hire car personally. I had to deal with them in the past and it’s just put me off ownership all together.
 
I wouldn't want to drive it personally. Aside from anything else, unburnt fuel from the misfire (assuming it's not a fuelling problem!) will soon knacker up your cat from being driven like it.
 
As stated by others, I wouldn't drive it and I'd be asking for confirmation of work via email or text message.

I find it a bit bizarre that they said it's fine to drive it...
 
I'm also on the not driving it side, too much rich for other issues to go.

And as you say above if anythign went wrong... "we did tell you to stay out of vtec"
 
Im just going to rent a car, not worth the risk.

I will have the car back when its fixed and not before, Not worth the risk found a place I can hire a car monday-friday for £80 so going down that route
 
Sounds like the best option to be honest, it's unlikely something would go wrong but if it did you'd likely be up poop creek without a paddle!

For £80 i'd be hiring a car as well, as others have said it's all well and good for them to say they'll cover any issues but if something did happen you can bet your bottom dollar that they'd very quickly retreat from that offer.
 
forgot to check airport prices, £58 for 10 days car hire bargain :D

rang the garage and said I will have the car back when its fixed and not before not worth the risk on my behalf.
I will likely save £20+ in fuel anyway driving a little fiesta for a week.
