Is it illegal to turn right here?

OK I know you're thinking you physically cannot, because reservation/island.

But the island has been removed and now you can physically turn right.

The "turn left" sign on the pavement is still there, but the second one on the island has been removed with the island. But there is no sign saying no right turn.

I've been tempted a few times but the area is cctv'd and I don't want to risk it without making sure.

The official guide simply says: "Turn left ahead (right if symbol is reversed)"

It doesn't sound as if it's illegal to do anything other than turn right otherwise it would have said "you MUST turn right ahead" like it does for many other signs, it just seems like advisory to avoid hitting the island.

"Blue circles generally give a mandatory instruction"

So theoretically you'd be in contravention of the highway code ignoring it until it is removed even if it is now technically redundant.

If there is a sign saying left only then I'd say you have to turn left! The fact that the one on the island has gone is pretty understandable given that there is nothing for it to sit on!

I would email the local Road Services via their website and ask if the sign was left by mistake when the reservation was removed. I find if you are polite about your question an actual human will answer you, often explaining why they did or did not do something.

I would turn right there now knowing that the central reservation had been removed, it’s clear that was the original intention of the signage, to prevent people turning right up the wrong lane.

There is still a sign saying turn left, that should answer the question, had they removed that sign then you could turn right. Remember its a circle sign meaning its a order you have to turn left.

Yes if the signs are still up.

I guess they will stay up as it would be a bit dangerous to have people turning right out of there when busy. If there were no cameras and no one around then I would do a cheeky right turn out of it though.

Why would it be dangerous? Surely it’s no different to any other T junction with no island there.

could simply phone your local council and get a proper answer instead of asking here, but as others have said if there's still a sign then you have to obey it.
makes me wonder why they removed the island though.
