Guys,

Thinking of moving up to 4k gaming, what upgrades do you think I need to play smoothly at full 4k res?

Current setup

Asus z170a mobo
Gtx 1080
I7 6700k
250gb ssd

Currently have a predator ultra-wide x34 monitor...
Or shall I just get an Xbox one x for my 4k tv ;)

What's the next gen on gpu I thought the 1080ti was fairly new, also never new a new Xbox was due, again thought that was relatively new...
Where have a been.....

10** gen has been with us for 2 years now , bit slow for GPUs but not competition

Xbox will be 2019/20 I believe, though they state current one is 4k capable ... Not the best , next round of consoles will be good !

For best results you will need a 1080ti and a G-Sync monitor.
Rumours are Nvidia will be releasing the next gen cards this year, possibly end of the month but who knows.

I bought a 1080ti and an Acer Predator 4k G-Sync monitor at the beginning of the year and my advice would be to stick with 1440p and go for 144Hz.
I find that there is an improvement in graphics quality but not by much, a lot of games just look the same due to the textures used in them are not 4K.
Even though there isn't much of a graphics improvement it will mean your GPU will be working hard to produce the extra pixels.
Unfortunately not enough games give the visual awe that you would expect from playing at 4k.

I'd say 4K gaming for most games is pointless! Prime example here : Playing shooting games on a monitor over 30" is going to give you a massive disadvantage, There is a reason most Pro players still play on 1080p monitor.

I have tried the 4K Gaming route myself and hated it with a passion! the sweet spot for me was 1440 Res. Also found 4k to be way to Sharp

4K is best for Movies and RPG but not for Shooters

Thanks for the input guys, will hold off for now, I'm happy with my current setup , love the monitor and the 1080 plays everything I throw at it, was just looking to see if there would be a massive difference moving from 2k gaming to 4k, but I guess not.
