Ok need some ideas for my next car, needs to be petrol, big enough for 2 adults 3 kids, fairly quick (under 7s) sporty looking and refined, preferably hatch or estate.

Currently have a 2016 octavia vrs mk3 diesel and no longer do the millage to warrant it, but struggling to find anything that comes close for practicality.

Would like 2016 or newer and up to 22k to spend

Easily get a 2017 approved used 320d M Sport Auto in budget if you can live with a saloon, c5k-10k miles on and reasonable spec inc split fold rear seats + pro nav and HK stereo etc.

Or petrol Octavia VRS DSG. You can buy a brand new one for your budget via carwow or broadspeed etc.

Needs to be petrol as only work a mile from home and do around 5000 miles a year, will take a look on carwow

Looked at the 3 series tourer but its not that big in the back or boot
You would struggle with the space in the rear seats.

A 3 series GT or 5 series estate would be much better suited for your needs, but they're quite rare in the petrol versions, especially in this budget.

I don't think you'll be able to beat Superb in the value for money category.

IMO, the difficult part is finding a car with a comfortable/dedicated middle seat in the back of the car. Most saloons simply don't offer this.
If you're happy to trade some "looks" against practicality and comfort, then possibly a 2nd hand BMW 225i series active/grand tourer, depending upon how much luggage space you have. Has the correct number of dedicated seats, good interior, performance to your specs, just isn't exactly a catwalk model.

Well 2 kids (10 and 7) is fine in the back of a 3 series, adults fine too, unless driver is massive. Problem might be the third one in the middle. :P

The transmission tunnel makes it even less comfortable than most cars its size, plus you'd struggle a bit to get a full size kids seat behind the driver (if needed) unless they were quite short.

The Octavia has a flatter middle seat and a better boot, though it could potentially still be a bit of a tight fit as above. A superb or potentially a GT would be absolutely fine though
