Laptop stolen insurance not paying any advice

Sorry for jumping on this thread but I hope someone may be able to help me with an unrelated insurance query for my Samsung handset.

I'm currently on the S9+ through the upgrade programme. I traded in my S7 Edge+ for £250 and pay 0% interest for 24 months @ £23pm. Now I'm only on this deal because I bought the S8 outright for £466 I mn January of this year. However, having played with it for a while I kind of got thinking I missed the bigger handset which my S7 offered. So I decided to trade in the S7 through upgrade and get a credit agreement on the S9+ (would have been happy with S8+ but the trade in value was only available on S9 at the time), then sell my S8 and use the return on that to pay off large chunk of credit agreement. Leaving me with new handset on a sim only contract.

Anyway, having thought it all through I had to take my mum to the hospital as she broke her arm. Was under a lot of pressure added by looking after her and when stopping for fuel slammed the car door onto my S8 that had slipped out of a pair of trousers with loose pockets. Unaware of what happened it wasn't until I opend the car again to get back in the smashed device fell on the forecourt floor. Problem being I hadn't switched the insurance to cover S8 so I was covered only S7 still and the S8 I paid cash for was uncovered (something I kept meaning to do) and still in possession of my S7 I put the sim into that whilst I figured what to do.

To try and summarise here I suppose what I would like to know:

Is there a way of trying to register a phone to my network even though it will no longer power up?

Is there a way of making a claim if I find a new insurance provider in a few months time ie. Are there any out there who will not ask the network to provide too many details for example that the phone hasn't been used since that day.

See I thought I could simply say that the phone had been switched off in a drawer or something then I broke it recently after getting it out again.

Thing Is I actually realise how much I liked the S8 and the S9+ doesn't feel right. I could look at some of the current deals on S8 now but I would still have a credit agreement on my S9+. The proceeds of selling S9 will go towards the credit on it but it still leaves me £466 down on my broken S8 with a replacement model locking me back into a contract. Worst still my mobile contract I thought I upgrade to sim only having what I was paying but there was a mix up with 2 contracts as I applied for a better deal through third party realising that the upgrade reduction on my original contract directly with Vodafone was better in terms of package rather than cosy...even though only about £2pm between each.

So finally after a well thought out plan I'm now on a contract for a handset I don't feel quiet enamoured by for some reason. I had to pay 2 contracts subsequntally for a month to keep my number that I've had for over 15yrs. I'm also back on the rolling contract I thought I upgraded away from to a sim only saving me over £20pm. Not much luck despite feeling pleased with myself that I'd done it the way I did earlier this year.

As you can imagine I'm a little frustrated and feel a bit short changed somehow. My fault entirely for not switching insurance immediately to cover S8 but now I'm paying for a handset again and on an expensive tariff which was originally taken out on S7. Worse still S7 I'm being told is out of warranty and will cost £240 to fix pink line problem (I've tolerated with all throughout my contract) which was an issue for early batches of S7. £240 to get £250 back trade in.. and again literally only after I worked out what to do with it all I dropped the S7 on the floor and a small crack on the bottom left of screen appeared. Nearly 2 years of no damage at all then just as I'm about to trade in I drop the phone damaging screen rendering warranty void. The screen needs replacing due to pink line anyway but basically it appears I am going to have to get my insurance to cover replacement of screen despite it needing to be replaced due to pink line!

I will fight that one of course because I enquired with Samsung re: pink line before I dropped it. I have insurance on S7 but that will cost £40 in excess only to be replaced by Samsung anyway.

Finally, I tink id like to sell my S9+ to get another S8. However, I do not want to be paying out on a contract (depsite being cheaper than exisiting tariff now!) when I have a sim.only and credit agreement on S9+. Proceeds of S9+ will cover the outstanding on the agreement however id be replacing it with a handset I have already paid outright for but just can't claim on insurance.....or can I??

Any advice will be gratefully received. I know it may appear a little 1st world problems but it's so annoying to be paying over the odds for a handset I thought I was finally contract free from.
No .It's fraud

Now the clanger is it was left unattended in an empty room at uni while my son went to spend a penny.

Insurance say get lost it was left unattended in a public place.

Half of me agrees with them

The other half thinks it was in a room on the 4th floor with the door shut for 5 mins. And the laptop was purchased and insured by the DSA for a student to use at the university.

They also wrongly state he knew stuff was being stolen from the uni (this only came to light after)

Any thought on weather this is worth pushing or how best to proceed?

Insurnace generally only pays out if there's forced access.

Harsh but obvious lesson for your lad

Phone wasn't stolen I crushed it in the car door.

What I am asking is what it takes to get the phone to register again on the network again. If I can get it to register again then a policy can be taken out to cover it and a claim made for the accidental slamming of the door without suspicions raised. I have been on 2 handsets since the accident so my response will be that I switched it off and left it in a drawer until I got round to insuring it.

Crushed it when taking my mother to hospital I'd like to add and annoyingly was only about to insure it with my existing provider but typically got distracted by caring for mum and subsequentally breaking my phone on way

I don't know of one insurance policy you can take out that covers you for any incident prior to the cover being taken out. Therefore, you do realise you're telling the world your fraudulent plan?

Your question has already been answered:

I broke my s7E phone, it slipped out of my pocket too. I didnt have insurance, I bought a new phone.

If you're going to try and commit fraud, dont post it on public forum

New OP basically asking if he can commit insurance fraud.

Unfortunately you've smashed the phone that you hadn't yet insured. Will have to chalk this up as one of life's lessons.

Yes ok I hear you. Put it down to ignorance.

One question though - do you think posting such is a concern? I mean as with most internet forums conversarions are publically available and interested companies monitor forums of relevance. But I only asked a question to a community I felt may be able to answer me.

I'm not naive but am I appearing to be?

Yes if you want to defraud an Insurance company be smart and dont post about it online.

It's a huge forum and anyone of us could work in insurance claims, work out who you are easily.

Instead of paying parasite insurance companies, put the money in a savings account to replace at your own leisure :D

This would be dumber than bumping an unrelated thread. Insurance is there to pay your in the event of you having an incident in future, you don't get to take out a policy after the event.

this tbh... insurance for things you can easily otherwise pay for is generally a big waste of money, I've never bothered with phone insurance

I remember at uni everyone was taking out insurance for the contents of their room in halls... it seemed rather pointless, some clothes and a computer. Its not like owning a house and having half a lifetimes worth of possessions that need replacing. But people seem conditioned to take out an insurance policy.

travel insurance, car insurance, insurance when you own an actual house etc.. those things make sense....

mobile phone insurance = often overly expensive product paid for by mugs who couldn't say no to the salesperson
