Just read about this poor man who apparently killed himself:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-45055059

Now I've never heard of him, but I couldn't help notice that his face is covered in a skull/zombie tattoo and according to the article he has other tattoos of body organs etc.

Now, tattoos are fine as a form of expression and the individual cam do what they like with their own body, but I can't help feeling that if a good looking young man decides to cover his entire body with graphic imagery of death and the undead then it's very likely that he has some severe mental health problems.

Yet lady gaga applauded his look and copied him, he's there in the article showing off at a black tie event and it seems that was his claim to fame.

By celebrating his image did modern society actually help him or did people just cash in on a very troubled man?

This topic has more shades of grey than a hardcover which makes old dears moist. There are so many arguments to be made both for and against tattoos it's unreal, but personally I don't think it matters at all. I've known people who can't wear short sleeves because they're covered from top to toe in tats and they make more than you and me combined, proper legit corporate stuff too, not selling dodgy Sky cards down Chris Wilson's local. Many people say you never see successful people with tats, I say that's because society still hasn't accepted it properly so they err on the side of caution.

Regardless, this guy's tats were freaking awesome, I love stuff like that.

(side story: I knew a family once, the mother was diagnosed with cancer, think it was leukemia, can't remember, but she ended up bald for obvious reasons, and this affected her confidence greatly, she was the matriarch of the family who fell from grace. In a show of solidarity the rest of the family all shaved their heads bald and this evolved, the dad used to get so hammered that he'd constantly get lost and they had to drive to the middle of nowhere to find him, eventually they told him if it happens again they're getting a street map tattooed on his head, it happened again and they lived up to their word, which is where their tattoo thing started, one of the sons then had a spider web tattooed on his dome with a creepy looking spider leg coming out of his ear, it was seriously well done, and the rest of the family just carried on with weird and wonderful tats on their heads and they even appeared on Dutch television as the tattoo head family, really nice folks, all of them. All bikers (as if you hadn't jumped to that conclusion already) and would always be there to help friends and family regardless of what went wrong, I had a crash in Holland when I was 17, pretty serious, was in hospital, looked rather odd to the nurses that there was a 21 year old bloke in full biker gang gear, bald head and said spider tattoo sat next to my bed holding a bunch of flowers, I think it creeped them out a bit, but that's the kind of people they were).

Anyway, made me think of this:

Can't say I'm surprised.

He effectively exiled himself from most of society the minute he got his first tattoo that couldn't be hidden. I understand his reasons for getting tattoos, as some kind of coping mechanism after being diagnosed with a brain tumor but it basically meant that if he did survive, he'd be forever different. Most of his fame only came about because of this, and was short lived. He got parts in several big films and TV shows and was edited out at the last minute. It was inevitable that this would lead him to a dark place.

Lady Gaga probably didn't help in this regard. She's made a successful career out of being different, but it's a competitive industry and most people don't make it and have to return to normality. That wasn't an option for him.

Personally I think anyone who voluntarily chooses to mutilate their face in that manner probably isn't too right upstairs.....

Don't most people regret their tattoos?

I assumed 50% of all tattoos applied are regretted within 24 hours. The other 50% are regretted within 10 years at most.

Also the idea that a tattoo looks good is merely a personally held delusion. Once they get a little mature and realise that the tattoos are horrible and cheesy they get desperate to remove them, which I've heard is more difficult than getting a tattoo.

And 86% of statistics in GD are made up..

Trouble is with tattoos is that people go to magalouf or whatever and get beered up and then get a **** tattoo. And in that case you're probably right.

However anyone with half a brain cell will actually think about what they want and/or commission a one off piece. And in those cases you're probably wrong.

"This man had tattoo's and different opinions to mine. His life was stupid and he did the right thing topping him self'.

People are utterly disgusting. Did you know Robin Williams acted out in NYC Central Park in his youth miming? Not paid, not asking for money, yet he did it because he loved it knowing so many people hated it. Yet when he killed him self did everyone ridicule his life choices?

Come off it, the guy had his way of living and as a remembrance at least respect that and his memory.

Bwahaha. I work in an unbelievably staid industry and specialism but I’m surrounded by people with visible tattoos. What a ridiculous thing to say.

Your experiences aren’t universal.

Visible tattoos (especially on the face) are still a point of judgement, unfairly or not, in most walks of life and will result in that person being treated less than if they didn’t have them.

Check the other thread/multitude of FB posts/reddit... It's the general consensus regarding his passing. It's really shameful.
I dunno why that thread wasn't merged but just locked. I think it's good to discuss these things. Apparently it's not. Another incident of male suicide swept under the carpet.
I don't think in this case we should be surprised that he did it. Being a complete nonconformist that hard against society is a cry for help in itself.
