Oh yes I would, peeve me off and cross that bridge then you will know about it job on the line or not.
Am a chilled person and hate violence with a passion, but tip me over the edge then its either the person who peeved me off or me that's gets it, I don't care.

Fair point. In some cases the attacker won't care what their victim does or doesn't do, so it's not about forcing obedience in those cases. Although sometimes the fun to those people is forcing obedience.
Probably to enforce obedience. The attacker might not remember why afterwards, but there's usually something that made sense to them at the time.
Self defence is absolutely about forcing obedience - the point of it is to control your attacker's actions. It's only unclear if it goes past self defence and becomes revenge, which is assaulting people for fun and thus the same as your first example.

I worked in enough bars when I was much younger to know that that isn't always the case. plenty of drunk clowns attack people for absolutely no reason, nothing to do with trying to get their victim to yield to their instruction or conform to their will. although I suppose that in itself is akin to attack people for fun.

Am a very placid person and it takes a lot to push me over the edge. Am not a big person only weigh about 9stone 5ft10.
I always try to stay away from that edge. But what happened to OP would have sent me crazy or over that said edge.
