moved Into our new place over the weekend which has just had some lovely new carpets laid down last week.

My office is in a carpeted room so I want to try and protect it as best I can. Unfortunately I asked to keep off cuts but it’s only one long thin bit so no good to have tidied and stuck to a board.

Anyone got any recommendations for what I can put under the chair to stop it damaging/pulling up the carpet?

I’ve heard these plastic ones, especially the Ikea one, crack and shatter.

Was more curious is there was any rubber alternatives or anything similar

The problem as I see it with rubber ones is they won’t be ridged enough to move the chair around smoothly. Not actually seen one so the design may accommodate that.

The ones I get certainly do after a while. I treat them as a consumable and just chuck and get a new one every few years (cheapo jobbie from my local costco). I'd describe my use a heavy duty as I work from home and am no lightweight.

ring carpet layers or visit carpet shop for an off-cut .. that's what I use under office chairs, ... portable rowing machine

just raw carpet .. reasonable quality wool carpet off-cuts with jute/hessian backing they avoid getting castor imprints underneath .. or wear where you might drag feet under desk..

I have used the Ikea Kolon for a year on brand new carpet and underlay on top of a concrete floor with no issues other than it slipping and needing adjustment fairly often.

I went with the amazon one in the end. It’s got a tendency to skip around and it still seems to be pushing the carpet down a fair bit but doesn’t seem to be pulling it about.
