1080ti getting 40-60 FPS on pubg?

I've had my 1080ti since November last year but haven't really been playing anything demanding. I have an i5 3570k and just recently bought the LG 1440p 165hz monitor.

So yesterday I tried pubg and my fps is shocking, I'm getting sub 60 FPS at 1440p 100% scaling with everything on very low. It's so bad it almost feels laggy to play and isn't enjoyable. I thought cpu might be bottlenecking it but my friend has the 1080ti with an old cpu and 1440p ultra wide and gets 90 odd fps. My computer has been formatted since I got the card. Could my card be faulty? Is there a way I can test that isit getting the right power etc? Any ideas welcome.

I play rocket league quite a bit and even get frame dips on that.

Do you have EIST turned on in BIOS for the CPU, if so try turning it off.

I have a i7 3770K and there was a patch for PUBG a while back that killed my perf until I disabled EIST, think this was then fixed then broke again between PUBG patches. Now I just leave it disabled and haven't tested again. It would not only lower my reported FPS but the game would feel like it was playing at about half the reported frame rate.

Also look to run some CPU and GPU benchmarks and compare to other similar setups to make sure it's not a general issue you have somewhere.

Cheers have never heard of that will check it out. The fact it can't hold a steady rate on rocket league makes me think it might be a bigger issue though :/ will run some benchmarks when I get home today

I'm getting a consistent 60+fps with a Zotac 1080ti Amp Extreme @4k with it tweaked for spotting people - Textures @ Ultra, foliage & effects low, draw distance max, AA low, post processing low and screen scaling @100 - that's with an i7 4790(non k, no overclock) - something isn't right for you OP.

I swapped my [email protected] for a modern i5 8400 and the difference is night and day so much smoother and loads more frames on the new processor.

Maybe you have other issues as well but for sure 3570k is not very good on big multiplayer games the 4 cores just fill up and run at 100% and your frame rate will tank hard.

Check cpu usage while playing pretty sure it be running maxed out.

Some benchmarks for ya just to show how far behind the 3570k is in some situations.

Try this GPU benchmark, it doesn't really use the CPU, so you should be able to check your 1080Ti's performance.
Also make sure you have GPU set to Max performance in Nvidia control panel.

I ran DDU and installed the latest drivers. I then downloaded and ran that benchmark software set to 1440p.

If anybody with a similar rig could run the bench with those settings for comparison i would appreciate it thanks :)

With those settings I scored 3177

4790K cpu, not that it matters in that test,
16Gb 3200 DDR3
1080Ti Evga FTW3 just stock clocks
1440p monitor 165Hz

I would be inclined to install Intel XTU, open it and have it run in the background. Use the spanner icon and enable all the monitors and set the time parameter to 30 mins.
Play your game and then once you exit, look back at the last 30 minutes of your systems performance. Check for any cpu power or thermal throttling, and also cpu useage.

Install MSI Afterburner, and do basically the same for the GPU, run it in the background and have it monitor your gaming session, then look primarily at GPU usage, then temps and clock speeds.

Look for anything abnormal.

Cheers mate, I wasnt able to get on my PC tonight longer than it took to do the drivers and run the benchmark but tomorrow night I will retry the game on the off chance the drivers fixed it else I will go through your steps. Appreciate the help.

This is actually an excellent benchmarking tool - my system is bottlenecked in some ways (CPU) and yet I get 100% consistent 75FPS at all times in Rocket League. If it ever dips, I know something's up with my system. As you can come to expect of a twitchy, fast-paced game, performance is ultra important. Return to this, possibly with an uncapped FPS rate, to see the results of your efforts.

I went in bios last night and my CPU temp was at 85 just in the bios. Looked like a heatsink clip had come loose, went to reseat it and three clips broke instantly so I'm thinking that was possibly the issue. I am now just praying I didn't break anything last night and will go ocuk after work to buy a new heatsink.

I had similar issues as you with a 3930k and a Vega 56. Turned out my AIO pump had broken and I was left with a CPU shutting down due to BIOS temps hitting 90. At least you know it's a CPU cooler bracket issue and not an actual CPU or GPU problem. MUCH easier to sort out :)

If it was you CPU downclocking due to temps I would have expected much lower drops to the point where is lags constantly. Still though it's best you get that heatsink replaced.
