Moving from BT - worth waiting for black Friday.

Just had my price rise email from BT and think I'll switch, I'm out of contract and will likely move to Plusnet. Just wondered if it's worth waiting for Black Friday, I seem to remember BT had some great deals last year but not sure if any other suppliers did, anyone remember or had I may as well just crack on?

Got the same email today, I went onto online chat and they said if I renewed (did the same last year mid contract) they would keep the price the same, I currently pay £28.99 + £1.75 for caller display, the increase was £2.50 so would have made the total for September £33.24 then from October caller display would be free bringing it down to £31.49, in the end I just agreed to renew at £28.99 (for another 18 months) inc caller display and free weekend calls (not that I use the housephone). If and when I get the email next year i'll just do the same, i'm quite happy with bt, I get 75mb down and 19mb up and the use of the bt hotspots when out and about (mainly for son)

After being with bt 13.5 years and got the email today. I'm sick of these mid contract price increases despite price freeze promises.
I'm going to look at moving, probably to plusnet.
Either way tomorrow I will be handing in my 30 day notice and see what they say.

I know exactly what your saying, I was about to jump to plusnet for a similar package for £25 but decided in the end just to stick with what I was on as its been very reliable for me, I presume they will offer you to at least stay on your current price plan.

Yeah I did exactly the same last year and that was my thinking at the time. I'd only been with them 6 months but was happy with the price and service so figured it made sense.

However I had some issues with my speed recently and it took a silly amount of time and effort to get it sorted, I won't bother with the boring details but I couldn't have been less impressed with the service, so I certainly don't want to sign up for 18 months and don't think they deserve my custom, also as a result of that complaint I somehow got my contract cancelled so can leave any time.

Also, I'm on Infinity 1 for £28.99 a month at the moment and can get Plusnet's equivalent to Infinity 2 for 27.99 (with £95 topcashback), so cheaper and faster (I'm very close to the cabinet)

Finally, the previous price rise I would have had if I hadn't extended was December, another so soon seems like a cheek to me.

Well I finally did it after nearly 14 years. I rang and gave BT my 30 day notice. The guy sounded miserable and did not even offer any incentive to stay.
I already had the confirm order screen ready on Plusnet. £28 a month for Unlimited Fibre Extra line only package. I was paying £46.49 with BT for unlimited 1.
For the last 6 months BT's 'My BT' has not been working with Chrome so I won't miss that.
Hopefully I have made a good move, time will tell.

Yeah the retentions team seem really hit and miss depending on who you get, some guy on HotUKDeals posted the other week saying he got infinity2 for £23.99 a month, though he was completely out of contract. I would have expected them to make an effort to offer you something though.

I also did the same and placed an order with Plusnet last night. If I hadn't been so unhappy with BT recently I might have called them to try to get a retention deal, but not sure I could have been bothered anyway.

I moved from BT back to Plusnet due to the price rise back in July.

Moved over to PN on 1st August, all gone smoothly and no issues - 10ms pings too which is good :)

I just saw you can have a static IP for £5 too, I presume that's per month.

Did you have an increase or decrease in speed ?

@Simps slight increase in sync, but that's because I was on the 52/10 package with BT and have gone to Plusnet back on the 80/20 plan. So my sync is now 60/17. Same pings and responsiveness as with BT though, not noticed any difference.

It's annoying as when I first got FTTC 4 years ago when it first became available, I got the max 79999/19999 sync then more people jumped on it 6 months later, crosstalk kicked in and hammered me down over time.

I think in the next few days the most I can get is about 65/18 now on my line. It's the best my line can get now our whole estate is on FTTC, until FTTP/Gfast comes out for us.

@Sparx Good to know cheers. I had already lost d/l and u/l for the same reasons and didn't want to drop any further. As long as it stays the same I'm not bothered.

If you're out of contract then I don't see much value in waiting until the end of November before switching.... you might get a marginally better deal but you'll have missed out on 3 months of savings. You're not going to end up hundreds better off by waiting that long compared to just monitoring over a short period and jumping on any decent offers that come up. Black Friday also tends to be a lot of smoke and mirrors these days anyway, stuff badged up as BF to make it sell but when you compare to previous offers over preceding few months often not really that special (with a few exceptions).

Yeah you're absolutely right, decided it wasn't worth waiting and signed up with Plusnet. I also did a little search and found some black Friday deals from last year and they weren't very special.

So I'll be paying a quid less a month than I was before the price rise, for a faster connection, and all being well £95 topcashback
