Boris and the burka

Bottom line for me is that if you don’t like the burka, you should be free to say it without having to apologise or fear losing your job. Yes you’ll offend some people but tough.

No on said you couldn't say you don't like the Burka.

Boris didn't merely say he disliked the Burka, he used immature and offensive language.

Funny though, Labours up in arms over Boris’ criticism of the Burka, but not a word was said when Emily Thornberry admitted on national TV that she wouldn’t want her mum or child to be looked after by someone wearing a burka. I wonder why that is?

err, I pretty much covered that with my reference to being up a mountain in winter, and yes, that is their original intended use, not however on the streets of Belfast or London in the middle of summer.

So their intended use here is to cover your face when committing a crime. Millions of muslim women do choose not to wear it in the middle east so there intended use here is to stop getting raped, therefore calling all UK men rapists and women who don't wear one whores.

Is that right?

I agree with what he said and yes he lacks a filter, I don't agree with how he said it...

Exactly, I can see the letterbox comparison, just like the old sea-ninja meme featuring some covered ladies in the ocean, but it would be one thing for a person to say this out loud to their mates, another to post it publicly on the internet, another to do so in a newspaper, and another altogether doing so being involved in politics.

It's a straight up trump move to generate "Lol, he says it like it is, I like him" mentality from people with less developed critial thinking ability. :D

Did Emily Thornberry use offensive language?

In his mind he would have considered it a joke. Sad day when you can’t joke even in a mildly offensive manner any more.

Exactly what offensive language did Boris use? Just state for me exactly what was offensive.

  • if a student "turns up... looking like a bank robber".
  • "I would go further and say that it is absolutely ridiculous that people should choose to go around looking like letter boxes."

No, articles by Academic professors who have published in peer-reviewed scientific journals state with evidence and reason why Islamophobia is racism. The press have simply reported on what the worlds experts in this filed consider to be racism.

Academic professors in sociology? Still nope :p

That's one of the subjects people go to uni for because they want to get **** faced for a few years. Like the arts or fashion design. To say it's a science is insulting to real academics.

See that’s not offensive to me. I’ve had just as bad and not been in the least offended.

That's not offensive. It's an accurate description.

The first isn't offensive to anyone (well maybe bank robbers who are overprotective of their rights), the second could maybe be construed as offensive to people who can't take criticism of their fashion choices, but that's more a problem of them being offended over nothing than a problem of somebody causing offence.

NB: I'm referring to the statements in their original type/context, not the edited versions spammed by left wing "alt news".

It doesn't matter if it is offensive to you. You don't wear a burka presumably so you have no needed to be offended by it.
If you don;t understand why some people who wear Burka might be offended then it says a lot about your social intelligence.

Agreed. Sadly we're in the kind of political vacuum where good leadership is nowhere to be found...weirdly refreshing approach after so many years of spin and bluster though...

"How do you make a law about offending people? How do you make it an offense to offend people? Being offended is subjective. It has everything to do with you as an individual or a collective, or a group or a society or a community. Your moral conditioning, your religious beliefs. What offends me may not offend you. And you want to make laws about this? I’m offended when I see boy bands for god sake."

You don't think calling people bank robbers simply because of what they wear might be offensive?

Boris caused offense. You don't choose to be ofended, it is a result of of the actions of others, in this case racist remarks by a prominent Tory politician.

You’re insulting my intelligence there.

I’m so offended, I might not be able to function for the rest of the day without my safe space
