Hi,

Just switched over to Android from IOS, using a Pixel 2. I would like to remove all apps/icons from my home screen, can I do it ? Do I need something like Nova Launcher, still can't seem to remove Phone, Messages, Gogle Play, Chrome and Camera from the bottom of the screen ?

Can't find a decent beginners guide to Nova Launcher either ?

I don't think you can remove most of those without a custom ROM. Try dragging the icon into app info and see IG you can disable any of them

I thought you could just delete all of these things on Android? Isn't that supposed to be Android's whole appeal?

Well most you can apart from the gapps stuff and a few others. You can probably remove icons but not the actual app unless your phone is rooted.

You can press and hold any icon on your homescreen to delete it. You can't uninstall some apps from your app folder. I'd recommend Nova Launcher as it opens up lots of options.

Right so the bottom row of icons is known as the dock and you should be able to rearrange/remove whatever you want following post4.
If not then nova launcher is the way to go

I think you need to get accustomed to how the android homescreen (contains shortcuts to your preferred apps) and the app list that contains all your main apps work along with the dock.

To move apps off the dock just hold and drag them to the top of the screen where a large X or Remove should appear. Nova simplifies a lot of this further as it is hugely customisable.

The home screens are the apps shortcut. Think PC desktop with icons on it. The icons don't represent that actual whole programme, just the icon shortcut. You can delete everything from your home screen, but you are not uninstalling the app software itself. It will still show in your app drawer.

Out of interest why do you want a blank home screen? You could hold your finger on an empty area of the the screen and change the home page to an empty one, the p20 Pro I have seems to let you remove all icons although iv not tried it due to liking my existing home screen
