There are enough real crimes to solve rather than making more criminals by doing this.

They're not making anyone commit a crime.
They're not making anyone commit a crime.
Surely laying temptation in your path?
But there are plenty of real thefts they could be solving, just because someone steals from this bait truck doesn’t mean they have done it before or do it again, it’s wasting police time and making people criminals.
Probably helps with their stats. Easy work, they should do some real work.
They put themselves in that position. They choose to steal. Nicking trainers ain't feeding your starving kids.
Just because I rape you and beat you to death doesn't mean I'm going to do it again or have done it before.
Makes it ok eh?
They don't even have to break into the bait car, a lot of the time its left with keys inside and the doors unlocked. There was a series showing this in action, sometimes they stage a mock argument with people getting out of the car and walking off leaving it wide open.
My respect for law enforcement in that part of the world is growing with each new revelation I hear about them. They also fill the truck with expensive shoes because if you steal over $500 worth in Illinois it becomes a felony theft, with sentences 2-5 years rather than up to 1 year for under this. I wouldn't be surprised if 1, maybe 2 boxes of shoes was deliberately priced above this amount.
The whole thing stinks whatever way you look at it.
True, but nobody forces them to take the criminal action. They just make the opportunity all the more available to people who are more predisposed to commit a crime.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
I thought entrapment was illegal in the U.S?
Only if you're rich and white![]()
And if the temptation wasn't there in the first place by putting cars into neighbourhoods they know they're liable to have thieves scoping out it wouldn't happen. It seems more of a waste of time than anything, when in Chicago of all places (known to many as Chiraq) they're doing bait cars instead of focusing on more hardcore crime which is rampant in that place.
That's right folks. If your car is stolen it's YOUR fault for having something someone was tempted to steal! How could you? You monsters. Didnt you think.of that poor thief with no self control or higher reasoning?
You obviously haven't seen some of these bait car scenes, they literally drive into areas known for high crime and get out of the car in full view of people and leave the engine running in some instances. If anything all they're doing is picking up repeat offenders for the same thing over and over. Some of them even know full well its a bait car ffs. Just seems to be a waste of time on the whole considering the scale of crime in Chicago.
So...Again, higher reasoning.
These people are so thick they'll steal a car that they know is being used to set them up and you're defending them? They're absolute wastes of oxygen.

@dowie is clearly not performing today so I'll take this one for the team. This is an interesting one, these cops are trying to reduce crime in a certain area by using bait and they get told off because it's in a poorer area with more black people and they're inciting racism or some such nonsense.
