First pc build since x58, have i overlooked anything?

I have been changing my build for the past few weeks and posting on the forums for recommendations but this is what i have landed on, i will be using my Nvidia 780 for the time being as i rarely play games now, i just want a nice fast PC that is rock solid and will last me a long time. Does anyone see any issues or obvious changes? Oh and i will use my current Noctua D14, i will just get the upgrade kit to allow AM4 use.

looks solid, but would replace nvme drive with standard sata if your not doing any heav data crunching daily ?

have the aorus board, 8 pack ram should be plug and play - have 4000hz version running 3666hz
with the 3200 kit can take off the tops to allow it to fit under most coolers which is hand!

also, thread ripper 2 is out very soon... 32 core out next week and 24 and 16 core versions o follow ? could be an option for yourself depending on your work and budget ??

The computer wont be doing any sort of video editing or anything like that, its just a general pc that i will browse the web, watch youtube/netflix/HD movies, play games etc etc etc the most demanding thing i do is photo editing on RAW images, it maxes my CPU out currently. My idea was to get this NVME drive as 250gb is more than enough for windows and then get another 250gb nvme later down the line as a photo editing disk, i also have 2 other SSDs that will be for games and other large files.

So i doubt threadripper would be a good choice as the most my pc will be doing is photo editing and i think the 2700x will do that just fine, the extra cost i doubt would be worth while.

true, was just looking at your old system and with mention of 'less gaming', thought it might be more of a work station etc

ryzen 2700x will serve you well, didn't find my nmve sped up windows to much ( bro works for them so i have few 1tb nvme drives ) , only thing it has sped up is Benchmarking utilities haha .
In theory would make for a great scratch drive on paper - not sure if you'll see benefits of it in actual action . tend now to only quote them if people want bleeding edge or for workloads like geomapping were your pulling 3000 32mp plus at a time , reading and writing over days on end etc

same P110 doesnt have USB C port on the front ? use mine a lot on Lian Li dynamic case with a SD to USB C reader- plugs to the boards internal 3.1 port and makes transferring photo files a pinch :)

better much haha. unless OP needs wifi/blue tooth ? to get around more nvme, I use the second GPU pcie slot

To be honest im not sure why im going x470, it seemed the newest so i picked that, are the x370 boards basicly the same minus an nvme slot and some connectivity options?
 
Also x370 isn’t flashed to run 2000 series Ryzen When the boards are sold separately. You need to have a Ryzen chip from the first series to update the bios. Or get a bundle where the board is known to be updated at the factory like the ocuk bundle.

Gigabyte has the luck of being based in UK , so another option to flash there Boards free , but as you say, bundles should be flashed and if not, OCUK would cover that if it's not . Sold separately least you've got options :)
Think most Asus boards have been flashed

It's the question of , when they were produced in China , then shipped to EU, then to UK and sat in distribution centre then on to reseller . Stock can sit for a while .

I think Asus recalled theirs to flash and gigabyte offers to flash for free
 
I’d recommend the ASUS Strix X470 and possibly a larger NVME drive, you get StoreMI free with X470 and you can use up to 250GB of storage combined with a larger mechanical drive to improve performance of your bulk storage. I went with a 500GB WD Black NVME and partitioned it with 250GB boot drive and used the other 250GB to create a faster bulk storage solution.
 
Go for the X470 board, make yourself future proof, the extra VRM is there for a reason, in the beginning of X470 there were a lot of questions as to why Gigabyte, ASUS & MSI etc added such a powerful VRM for a CPU that doesn't use anywhere near that, then came a lot of talk of AMD releasing next years chips, RyZen 3 7nm with added cores, 12 core 24 thread etc, although the X370 boards should support them as AMD promised, the X470 boards with the better VRMs will support them better and probably allow for higher overclocks......if you are into overclocking of course, id imagine maximum overclocks on X370 motherboards limiting factor will be the VRM overheating with RyZen 3000 overclocks, whereas X470 will handle them easier.
 
Do you still have the x58 setup? I had an i7 920 and got hold of a Xeon X5670 chip and AIO cooler. Having recently updated to an i5 8600k i have not gained any physics/cpu performance in 3dMark benchmarks. There is a thread on here somewhere about it. It's £150 tops and is a great value upgrade, you could spend the cash on a decent gfx card then.

Yes the x58 system has a X5660 in it and is still blazing fast, its being given to my parents as their core2duo e6600 is showing its age, i did notice a HUGE difference going to the 2700x by the way, my motherboard got sent back for RMA so now im back on the x58 and everything feels SO sluggish, its a huge boost to general day to day usage, not sure if its the cpu or the fact im off of sata2 and onto nvme, or a combination of both but i can 100% tell the difference and im so happy i upgraded!
