*** The Official Battlefield 5 thread***

That's because people are stupid and don't understand the point of this alpha. Its an A-B test on weapon balance.

Makes little difference, they could have easily put the fixes into a newer client on a different map and released it as a teaser closed beta for a few days which overall could have given a better impression of the game. I see plenty of negative comments about the game and comparatively few positives, and thats across several forums not just the official feedback forum.

Maybe the beta will be a big surprise and feel pretty polished with a lot of the complaints taken into consideration. They're releasing a trailer for rotterdam tomorrow so presumably that will be the beta map which HOPEFULLY will actually give the game a ww2 look and feel.

People generally don't understand the purpose of alphas heh... that said its pretty poor when on the like 7th iteration of a game using an engine the alpha still has issues like a small drop = instant death or vehicle flipping over, etc. and despite protestations otherwise its still present in some form come the next alpha and the next and then the beta then the open beta and then the retail game and maybe gets patched a year later in the retail game... and then rears its head again come the alpha for the next game, etc.

I don't get the way some recent WW2 games have tried to depart from the WW2 look and feel which is pretty established and just works - some recent ones and the screenshots for this look like a sci-fi shooter at first glance.

I don't get it myself, i know dice said this is "their take" on ww2 but they also said that about bf1 and that looked like a ww1 game. Weapons and vehicles aside you would think this is a random game using ww2 era weapons as it looks nothing like ww2 (with the current map and character presentation at least). You see the end game screen and you have germans with weird looking face masks on that look like Jason Voorhees and you're left wondering wtf are Dice employees doing recreationally.

presumably this:

Anyway, roll on the beta. Bit of luck it changes opinions for the better.

Hah - I think part of the problem is more and more newer generation younger developers who don't have the experiences and perspectives that some of us who've been around awhile have :s I see it increasingly with more recent versions of software - things that I know from long experience just don't work and obviously the lessons haven't been handed down properly within the company and/or are ignored. I actually support trying to do something different or testing long held beliefs as sometimes things can be missed or overlooked, etc. or sometimes there are exceptions to something that has become a defacto standard and so on but there seems to also be a lack of willingness to learn from when things do and don't work - its OK trying something but you have to know when to say OK that didn't work/isn't ideal.

People hacking already in the alpha, (same engine so hardly surprising) just seen several players on the same team have 50-2 70-1 and 98-3 scores. Didn't help one of them was spamming a cheat site address.

But then it wouldn't be a true A-B test would it as there would be other variables. They have said that the beta will be a new build of the game. The alpha is purely for weapon balance. Its that simple.

To be fair you always complained about bugs and 'netcode' etc in every Bf thread as far back as I can remember. While others, myself included doesn't suffer from such issues, or certainly not as frequent. Maybe the issue is your connection or PC.

Tbh I'm not sure why you two bother playing it, all you do is whine.

Most of the bugs I have recorded footage of and are well documented by players in general (search say battlefield 4 bugs on YouTube) for the most part definitely not related to internet connection.

I only bothered playing BF4 for as long as I did due to a lack of another game that satisfied the gameplay elements I was looking for - I now mostly play The Division (PVE) which ironically isn't without issues of its own but has squad play (coop) and character/loadout customisation, etc. and largely free of bugs that impact on that aspect of gameplay as much as they do in BF4 (though it is pretty tragic in TD PVP for bugs/glitches/netcode).

Yes, how dare someone criticise a game before its finalised and be happy to accept anything they release. Pretty sure that's the point of the current process of the pre-release stages, even though we all know this close to release the "alpha" and "beta" are more like demo's and promotional tools. Don't want to see the posts? put me on ignore, problem solved.

While i'm sure it's possible something like this existed in ww2 it looks like they've got lost heading to the friday the 13th auditions :p

And sure enough https://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-German-Wehrmacht-Camouflage-Mask-Reproduction-/331508186484

One of the dice people that addressed the "outrage" of women being in the game.

In an interview with Gamasutra, EA chief creative officer Patrick Söderlund says that the developer is uninterested in taking flak for diversifying the gaming space. “We stand up for the cause, because I think those people who don’t understand it, well, you have two choices: either accept it or don’t buy the game,” he says. “I’m fine with either

Seems like people listened to him.

That's the type of trailer they should have first shown the game with rather than the weird one they chose that left people wondering.

Well that's a much better trailer than the original, but lets face it, didn't take much.

And I'm guessing that's the BR mode shown at the end, with vehicles as well? be interesting how they work the balance on that one, it's hardly a motorbike and side car to get to point B.

Seems that they have learnt how to put together a a good looking trailer again.

Shame as that after the last few trailers and the alpha my hype for this is almost non existent.

Um looks like that trailer was directed by a 5 year old high on sugar! not sure what people are seeing in it.

They really should have just made a sci-fi game as they obviously want to - that kind of take on WW2 is interesting but just feels too much like it is in 2 minds what it wants to be which is off-putting.

EDIT: Anyhow I guess that is it from me - obviously not a game I'll be interested in and not lacking for other options to play right now.

I know that DICE aren't aiming for a realistic WW2 shooter, moreover just a WW2 based shooter, but as a WW2 game purist, all bangy crashy buildings falling down ridiculous holo scope rip offs just kills it for me unfortunately. It will be good at what it does, but I need to look elsewhere such as Rising Storm 2 for a decent realistic WW2 shooter.

Did buildings and parts of buildings not fall down in ww2 after shelling? :p As for the sights, they did exist as far back as 1900. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflector_sight
