Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Been waiting ages for this release so I can buy my first ever ##80Ti. **** you Nvidia.

I’d rather stay at 1080P than pay that much.

They really are taking the pee out of their customer base and I won’t be buying one purely on principle.

Fully star out swearing

NVidia in their infinite wisdom realised that consoles are doing '4k', so if the peasants are at 4k we need to feel superior in some way. Best way to do that is to charge you to make you feel superior, it's to show that we're not peasants. We should all thank Nvidia for considering our feelings.

Wtf. Read a little bit on here. Followed the link to Asus 1080ti on overclockers. Thought is this a new August fool joke and checked out Nvidia website, sweet Jesus this can't be real. So when are the £6k 2080 laptops coming out?

LOL

Here is a review of the announcement

Seems I should change my account to "ProphetPanos". :D

When I said that this one will run hot and power hungry (especially after PNY posted 285W TDP at base clocks), was again vilified (as when I wrote that the Ti will be way over £1100 if we adjust vat & UK rates).
Yet the FE card comes with 2 fans and not the traditional blower cooler.....

And my question is WHY Nvidia drop the blower after all those years on their FE cards? ;)

It might not be a dig at OCUK for ASus cards, but other cards at OCUK are still £100 more for the same cards elsewhere. That IS a dig at OCUK.

Eh, I've just checked competitors pricing and they're nearly identical. Anyway I won't get into a pricing debate as I quite like my OCUK forum membership. I don't compare prices to certain shops as I'd never shop there. I'd like to reiterate, my dig wasn't at OCUK pricing, it was a dig at Asus Tax, its present wherever you shop.

Well one point would be the fact that the cards lose performance with the standard blower cooler, the previous gens get better boost clocks on third party coolers and obviously better overclocks. Plus if its really 285 watts tdp it clearly needs more cooling :p

Saying you are going to move to a console because a company releases a premium GPU at a very high price is like saying in response to the launch of a new £300K Ferrari that you are going to start taking the train; A total knee jerk reaction.
Stick with your 10 series and I'm sure there will be some better value 7nm cards down the line from both companies.
This is a non event unless AMD decide to give up on attempting to make high end cards in which case this is potentially a bad omen.
So you think this is a one-off, hmm?

So what happens when the 30xx cards are even more expensive, or (best case scenario) roughly the same?

Actually a lot of us already jumped to consoles in response to the 10 series. The 20 series has just cemented our decision. The prices are obscene.

Welcome to the present and the future for PC.
