Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

So we can expect a lot of demo trailers in the near future where every other surface is bizarrely highly polished just to show it off. The car and flame thrower was more distracting then immersive, why would a car in WW2 have a high polish paint finish in the middle of a warzone? Pro gamers will probably turn the effect off as much as possible due to it's distractions and for the rest of us it's worth is questionable to say the least.
Yes and not only that but I bet RT will tank frame rates.

See for me at least you are missing the point. I could order one right now no problem . The wife even encouraged me ( I think she wants me to shut up about getting an upgrade as been looking for months). But for me if I feel I am getting taken for a ride it WILL affect my enjoyment.
Chances are I will cave. ... But it will be for a less horrible price than that. Surely they will have to come down in price once the 1st wave are gone.
Hell we knew earlier today we may be looking at $1K. ... But I thought MAYBE we would get £950 or so and on top of that I was hoping they would throw in the games shown in the stream
But no
... Shafted on price, currency conversion AND no games bundle. Screw that
i get what you mean actually.

i am like that at other items i feel overpriced like the macbook pro laptops that just came out and instead opted for a windows dell xps one as i felt shafted.

The 2080 normal one aint that bad priced, its the ti thats a joke.

i could probably sell my 980gtx sli for 400 quid and that could help fund this

What games are people playing that struggle with 10xx series cards. I have a 1080 that creams everything I play at 3440x1440. I guess 4k is very demanding. Come join me at superwide it's very immersive and not that demanding on your GPU.

Pro gamers may go for this as seeing your opponents in reflections provides a clear advantage.

One thing I'd also worry about is how long until they refresh the range. Do you think these cards are likely to have a 2.5+ year lifespan like the 10-series until they're superceded by something faster and cheaper?

I'd want to be very certain of the longevity of a video card if I was spending 4 figures on it!

Think I agree on the 2080 being close to normal (can be had for £100 more than the 1080 on launch), as long as we get the normal % fps gains over a 1080ti. Looking at specs though, I'm inclined to say it's going to be closer to a 1080ti than usual most probably which will be slightly disappointing.

That's what majorly put me off that card in all honesty.

Look at when Ray Tracing is off while they are showing the reflections on the car. It's not a simple Ray Tracing on/off, is Ray Tracing On vs reflections set at their lowest detail level.

The reflections in the shop windows look terrible - whether it's the model of the shopfront is "wrong" or whatever but all I can see is flames that look like they are inside the shop, due to the way the window frames etc appear to be in front of the fire reflection.

I think ppl are missing the point there is probably a load of 1080ti still needing to be sold so wasn't going to price the cards to cheap to keep there partners happy.

If the 2070 is just behind the 1080ti in performance then the price is rite and if the 2080 is say 20-30% ahead then the price is rite if they are trying to keep the old 1080ti in the game

As for the 2080ti I think they are just trying to go after the hardcore with it

I'm sure RT can look nice, the question Nvidia need to ask, is it worth 40% extra. Unless you have a reflection fetish, no.

On another note, I thought the vega launch was terrible, yesterday's launch made vega look professional.

At 1440p/165 Hz and need something better than the 1070. Most of all I'm in love with Forza Horizon and want to experience Horizon 4 with as many frames as possible (Horizon 3 sits between 70 and 110).

someone just shot you while you looked at the fire.
Thats gaming not walking around looking at the world in a fps game
You can introduce things that look wrong and people wont see it due to them are shooting people.

Main reason, tons of unsold cards from previous gen.
Now the gamer is punished for that

I'm still slightly hopeful that the 2070 is going to bench similar to a 1080ti in most games.

...but I have a feeling it's going to be 1080 speed, and technically can do raytracing, but doesn't have the horsepower to do it in real games, only tech demos.

Again, if the price continues to improve with performance then next time the xx70 card would be 700.

Doesn't sound "rite" to me.

I didn't know BF5 was out yet. For me this is a really hard sell, and I think it's the same for others. Even if you can appreciate the technical implications.

I think when we see it in realtime for ourselves, it'll be different. Just not 1,099 different. It's something that doesn't work well as a humble brag and is best left for people to discover for themselves.

Maybe I'll be more impressed when i see some benchmarks or they announce more features. Right now this is feeling a whole lot less exciting than when they announced the 1080 card in 2016 though.

Feels like Nvidia simply chucking out an iterative upgrade to milk existing tech, with a big PR push behind it to make it seem new and shiny, whilst AMD isn't in a position to offer any competition?

As others have said it's very suspicious to see ludicrous claims of "6 times the performance" without any benchmarks to back it up!
