Seriously? "Pure fear"!?

I read that earlier, I thought maybe if she was an old woman then it might fly, then checked, saw she was 30...... Just attention seeking.

Old meme is old, but remains true. Just change 2015 to 2018.

It's arguably one of the most terrifying memes in existence. Where the hell are we going to be 20 years from now?

Let's see, in 70 odd years we've gone from packing off our 16 year olds to die on foreign soil en masse to not really doing that quite so much so i'd say we're looking alright.

If it's a choice of following my grandfather into battle or helping my son make peace i'll choose that latter thanks.

I mean it would be churlish of me to judge the current generation on their lack of war experience, after all i've never stormed a beach either.

I assume you have some idea of how WW2 unfolded and that the British government didn't actively go out sending children to their deaths for fun right?

"My descendants are from Europe, and although I don't know by name who perished, I am sure members of my family did die in the Holocaust."

I realise those has been quoted already but seriously it is a thing of beauty.

She's claiming PTSD by proxy because of something she thinks probably happened to some people she never knew who she might have been related to. I think her behavour is offensive to people who have genuine reason for PTSD, i.e. things that happened to them. She should be ostracised, forced to issue a grovelling public apology and all the rest of the usual stuff imposed on people who are denounced as heretics. No, that's the wrong word. Same thing, different time. Witches. Ah, no, still the same thing, different time. Offence! That's the modern version of the same thing.

I know people who lived during WW2 and actually do have real trauma as a result, for real reasons. For example, I've seen my mother fight her fear, striving to maintain self control because she heard a specific noise. She's told me how much worse it was in the past, before the decades passed by and softened it, when the noise would have her huddling in a corner shaking in fear.

For this person to deliberately go to a historical re-enactment event and claimed PTSD by proxy because she saw a historical uniform at a historical re-enactment event is grotesque and insulting.

Let's hope she doesn't watch the UKTV channel Yesterday... They have Allo Allo on demand.

Imagine the panic she'd end up in. She's probably have to replace her sofa.

i assume Amanda, 30 from East London is also **** scared of war museums? or is only real people scare the bejsus out of her?

if that isn't an exaggeration then she has bigger problems than some auld boy strutting round in a pair of jack boots

She'd **** herself if she came round our place, swastikas everywhere! Not in the same context but you know, if shes going to collapse at the sight of a german uniform her life must be pretty rubbish. She basically cant watch any of channel 5, 4 or itv2 (who does though) or visit any museum that remotely covers anything that happened in the last century.

Also, I note the national trust have got a bit antsy about it. Well, as a non practicing C of E (as in its on my birth certificate, nowt else) I demand that anything displaying artifacts or the history of Henry VIII be immediately closed or demolished, as its offensive to my purported religion.

Oh, doesn't it work that way?

Allo Allo was great. Shamefully today, a show like that wouldn't get made.

Anyway, this woman is a very sad case.

I don't have a problem with people reliving history, historical reenactment weekends are a thing where people dress up and live as the subject they are pretending to be for the weekend, biggest examples are American Civil War reenactments and World War 2 reenactments.

History shouldn't be locked away, destroyed or not talked about, it should be shown, displayed and lived again, so our passed mistakes and successes can be remembered.

What's funny is as the NT have said they want to investigate. Everyone is comming o it pointing they let fox hunting happen on thier land woth no Investugation

I assume you have some idea of how WW2 unfolded and that the British government didn't actively go out sending children to their deaths for fun right?

Absolutely, but it's not just about the actions of our government. The comment was clearly somewhat tongue in cheek but I'm firnly of the opinion that the world is a much safer and more tolerant place than it ever has been. With small exceptions each generation tends to advance society in a positive way, and i get fed up with people denigrating new generations seemingly because they haven't been forced (either through conscription of moral imperative) to partake in some kind of massive conflict and are therefore soft.

The whole safe space thing is nonsense too, i'm exposed to a fair few younger people on a daily basis and i've met literally nobody who is like that. Anecdotal of course but there it is. I try not to base my opinions on the actions of extreme outliers and radical student unions.

Agreed. She sets a dangerous precedent for those who are genuinely affected by PSTD. Plus there is the danger of re-writing history if past evil factions are being censored.

both my parents died in the holocaust before i was born. i've never got over it.

An I imagine that's the case for a lot of people, but you know your parents died there, and it's had an impact on you as anybody would expect. This woman doesn't seem to know whether or not anybody from her family had died in the holocaust, but has made the assumption that they did even though she has no details whatsoever. The two situations aren't comparable in my mind.

I’d defend to the death your right to display any flag or symbol that you want, but I’m mildly intrigued as to why you have “swastikas everywhere”, are you just a WW2 buff, or an extreme right winger?
Of course, you can be either or both if you wish.

jesus, i'd expect this sort of thing to be un-pc in germany but not here.

yes it's a horrific chapter in our shared history, but thats exactly why it should be remembered, and if it takes people getting uncomfortable then good, it's meant to, you're meant to be scared when you're reminded just what ordinary human beings are capable of when pushed to the limit.

what we shouldnt confuse though is the difference between the regular joes, and the fanatics, lest we start thinking the german people are anything but a mostly freindly bunch driven by poverty to follow any nutter who sounded like he could improve their lot.

You can be sentenced to up to 3 years jail in Germany, for displaying Nazi symbols or regalia, including the swastika, the solar cross, SS runes, SA insignia, and numerous other items.

While I don’t doubt that there were a few 16 year olds who flanneled the recruiters and got into the services, (notably the Navy), during WW2, surely it wasn’t Government policy to draft 16 year old boys en masse, was it?

This is where my lack of discernment comes in, I can’t tell if this is serious, or derisive.
