*** The Official Battlefield 5 thread***

I suspect that premier @ £90 a year for full and early access to every EA game, and early access to the Beta has probably decimated the pre-orders. Anyone who is likely to buy 2 EA games a year is better off with premier. If EA didn't expect that then they really are braindead.
I would look at the numbers playing the closed beta (pre-orders and premier) before writing any obituaries. Having said that, if the open beta doesn't go down well then DICE will be in trouble, but I am 99.9% sure that the Beta will be Rotterdam and that the map will appeal to infantry and vehicle players alike (although not so much the flyboys).

This 100%, said this to a few friends last night. Direct preorders for BFV will obviously be down with EA offering Origin Premier for £90. Who wouldn't want that if you play a lot of EA games, want all future big titles with early access plus 150 or so existing games all playable from the catalogue.

The beta info was already disclosed:

What Multiplayer Maps and Modes Can I Play?
Players can jump into the up 64-player Conquest mode on the Rotterdam map, set in the embattled Holland city, or the Arctic Fjord map, set in icy Narvik, Norway. In Conquest, you must battle for control of key locations on a massive multiplayer map, using the new Fortifications, towable weaponry, and Squad Reinforcements system.

Two “days” of Grand Operations are also available to players in the Open Beta. In this modular narrative experience inspired by historical events, each day is represented by a round of play, and player actions have a direct impact on the next round. Up to 64 players can deploy in the Airborne and Breakthrough modes on the Arctic Fjord map.

A Quick Ride on the Tides of War
A preview of the Tides of War — the ever-evolving journey through WW2 featuring a new narrative every few months — also awaits players in September. Each chapter of Tides of War is designed to focus on an aspect of the era, with unique gameplay experiences to drive players forward.

A five-part Tides of War chapter will be part of the Open Beta. Players who complete the chapter will earn an exclusive in-game Dog Tag in Battlefield V at launch.

I agree, I've cancelled my preorder now too as I wil get origin premier instead.

Not sure why but haven't been 'hyped up' for BF5 at all - my enjoyment of BF1 dried up a while ago and just haven't been fussed since.

Assuming there's an open beta at some point? Might give that a go.

Sept 6th, preload on sept 3rd. Pre-orders get access sept 4th.

This isn't really a WW2 game, is it? If you aren't going to respect the theatre or setting then just don't bother doing it. It seems clear from the jazzy tat in the trailers that they want to make BF2143, so they should just get on and do it.

The following makes my toes curl, pretentious ####:

“We've all been through the beaches of Normandy,” explained senior producer Andreas Morell. “We've been there, we know what it's about. We wanted to deliver an unexpected take on the second World War, to portray the era through unseen locations and untold stories.”

Lot's of pretty colours and ridiculous masks. I'll still buy it, but I was hoping they'd tone down the BF1 Fisher Price stylism and go for something a bit grittier involving Normandy beaches, fights in northern French towns, volcanic wastelands in the Pacific theatre etc. Frozen Norwegian fjords? Rotterdam? What's the point in doing that? In an MP FPS, any city/frozen/mountain/sea/island map basically plays out the same in any game or setting, so you may aswell go for the authentic WW2 feel and have some immersion.

They need to stop pretending they are historical educators for the masses, shining a glorious light on the lesser known parts of the wars. On one hand, they introduce uncommonly told parts of the war and on the other, they stick shiny bells, whistles, and prosthetic limbs on it.

I just hope it plays well because it certainly won't be the immersive experience it could have been.

Some footage of rotterdam i managed to snag after it was taken down.

Definitely still beta going by some of the stuff in the vid, being underwater is totally clear for example.

I mean I know it might be more like it actually looked like in reality but it just doesn't look right for WW2 aesthetically and even then just everything is too bright and shiny not a spec of dust on glass surfaces, etc. (obviously being a work in progress that kind of stuff might not come in until polish passes near the end of development but still it doesn't help).

Shame looks like there is potentially a good game there if they'd spent more time focusing on the right elements and hired someone(s) to clean up some of the legacy engine issues once and for all.

Also, regarding that RTX gimmick..... Sorry but I've never seen my ADS sight look anywhere as bad as what is made out there:

Got thousands of hours in BF games and not once has that been an issue, even with the low4pro settings...... Also, go look at the likes of crysis 3 and the division......

As per usual, gimp the built in engine graphic effects in order to make nvidia's "effects" look better.

But I digress.....
