If you shot both in the ground next to each other be stuck in a loop at a high speed.

Shot both next to each other you'll fly up less than you fell, repeat over and over each time you'll go up less due to mavity and wind resistance eventually you'll be going slow enough you just pop out and are safe

Yeah just thought of that, there is friction so even if you exit upwards firing portal at terminal Velocity, go back down to the other slightly slower due to air resistance, repeat until you exit at safe velocity and don't fall back in.

Would not work due to horizontal velocity as you would have been traveling at the same speed as the plane.

120mph is I think is the terminal velocity of a human plus the speed that the plane was traveling on the horizontal plane. You could take into account of air resistance but at 5000ft you would hit the deck pretty quick.

If the games are to be believed you always have long fall boots on when you get a portal gun, and give the distance you drop at the start of "The Fall" in Portal 2 I'd probably just drop and let the boots do the work.

Then use the portal gun to rob a bank.

The physics is so out there that I don't think we need to take Valve's Portal franchise as fact

You'd be travelling at such terrific speed that even aiming would be a mission to the sky diving novice, accounting for wind resistance.

Given the choice I'd stay on the plane, even if it had complete engine failure. Your chances of survival may be low (higher if there's a skilled pilot at the stick to glide it in) but the portal scenario it's got to be somewhere between 0 and frack all.

Assuming you had the portal gun before you exited the plane: fire one portal inside the plane, observe the ground looking for a tidy pub and fire the second into the beer garden.

If you somehow only discovered the portal gun after exiting the plane, take off your shirt/jacket or whatever and fire the first portal there instead and climb through it as you free fall.
