The Russian embassy posted a tweet claiming that Western operatives had arrived in Syria to fake a chlorine attack. The tweet was accompanied by a photo which supposedly showed the operatives preparing to film the event.

Unfortunately for the incompetent liars at the Russian embassy, Eliot Higgins was already on the case:

The thread is hilarious. This was an epic fail by Putin's propaganda team. They're getting absolutely shredded in the comments.

The sad thing is this will still have the effect they wanted. The people who want to believe will focus on the original tweet and just treat the rest as fake news, they keep the message fresh in the minds of the conspiracy theorists and have the bonus of hoovering up a few additional gullible people who didn't see the retweet and didn't think to fact check.

Just the calm before the storm...

Strangely enough the place they are saying it is going to be staged as happening access to is pretty locked down on one side by Syrian, Iranian and Russian forces and on the other Turkey - but apparently it is going to be carried out by specialist British PMCs... I guess all that R&D on invisibility cloaks and teleporters finally paid off.

Well i mean not to downplay the situation, but special forces can blend in very well, all you need is a beard and a local garment and seemingly no one cares.

It's already been posted in here in the Syria thread, only by people believing its true >_<

Shills gonna shill! They literally can't help themselves. If they weren't so deluded and potentially mentally ill it would be funny.

Our government has been doing the same for years. Why doesn't anyone make a thread about it?

Care to share any specific examples? It's a very easy generalisation to make that our government is as bad as Russia or any other world government, do you have anything to show this is actually the case?

I must have missed all those times the British government falsely claimed that some people were going to stage a chemical weapon attack that they would blame on other people, and tried to substantiate this claim with a completely unrelated photo.

Very weak attempt at propaganda on Higgins' behalf, but apparently it works on the feeble minded, or more likely those who know it's a strawman argument but don't care about truth. The text in the tweet makes it clear that the story is about something that might happen in the near future. The photo therefore cannot be an attempt at substantiating something that hasn't taken place yet and only visually illustrates the sort of thing to expect.

Wow, I've seen some mental gymnastics before, but you really take the cake.

I'm sorry BB, I do struggle with these two minute Russia hates. They are so pathetic you see. I wonder if they could be improved at all. We need to talk about Douma, and the previous warning of a staged chemical attack, which turned out to be true, with none of the alleged victims found to have been affected by sarin or chlorine. That won't be very helpful in our propaganda efforts and needs memory holing. Can you arrange that? Cheers xxx

This (OP) may be a fake one, but there are many examples where this has been the case, sadly :(

A BBC journalist claims the chemical attack in Syria this week was “staged” by Western forces, in order to justify an illegal invasion of the country.

According to BBC Foreign News Producer Riam Dalati, the U.S. and UK are blaming Bashar Assad for the attack with zero evidence. He tweeted that he was tired of “staged” scenes.

“Sick and tired of activists and rebels using corpses of dead children to stage emotive scenes for Western consumption. Then they wonder why some serious journos are questioning part of the narrative,” Dalati tweeted.

Rt.com reports: He later deleted that tweet, but not before others in the Twittersphere managed to grab a screenshot of it.

Yesterday a BBC journalist (see above) posted a rare admission that #Syria rebels & activists are manipulating photos of dead #Douma children for western media propaganda purposes. Today the BBC journalist has deleted his tweet but, for the record, a screen shot of it is here pic.twitter.com/MvZ9OjHV5P

It didn’t take long for people on Twitter to speculate as to why Dalati would have deleted the tweet, suggesting the BBC forced him to do so.

Why would he delete the tweet? Orders from above?

I think we both know that the poster means that our government lies and misleads people...
