Fun, reliable, kind of cheap, can I pick all three?

You would get a well sorted R26 Megane F1 for that money - prices are generally on the rise so you are unlikely to lose money on one.

This would be a great option... how reliable are they? I imagine they're getting to the age where a lot needs replacing to get them back to their best?

£6-£6.5k would get you a really good one that should have had a good refresh of most typical wear parts by now.

They are no less reliable than any other hot hatch really. Front suspension (swivel hubs) is usually one to make sure is done, as is the cambelt, dephaser etc.

Considering the outrageous Type R tax that's going on at the moment, that seems like cracking value for a very focused hot hatch.

I can honestly say I really, really enjoy driving mine. It goes round corners really well, sounds OK and goes well enough. I would like a touch more power as mine is still standard but that is to come. I personally think it looks great too.

There are people spending 10's of thousands monthly to make their supercar extra quick who can't get into the 7's. People buying track ready GT3 RS's and GT2's that will never get close to this time.

Not the most reliable car.
Windows will stop working every year. £500 for a set.

Isn't that the test driver for Koenigsegg? I am pretty sure he would be fast in anything! It just goes to show how much tallent makes for when driving normal tin tops.

Boxster 986 S? Especially seeing how the prices of S2000's are going now.

The 986 is getting on a bit now and could start to throw some pretty large bills. Servicing at an indy doesn’t have to break the bank, but parts can be pricey. The 986S is a fantastic car but with this remit a slightly scabby s2000 is better than a slightly scabby 986S.

350Z is a good shout but I couldn’t comment on the running costs.

The MX5 looks better and better every time one of these threads appears. How are the Mk3’s for rust?

Fuel is the biggest factor when buying a 350z, servicing cost is good due to no hefty cam belt service. Pretty solid typical jap machine.
