Yes, "the internet" is wild, as is the real world. My point is, there's no reason why kids should be easily exposed to seeing it. The major platforms could absolutely do more to filter that crap out. Analysis done by "those who know" (forgive me, I'll find the reference tomorrow) showed that many of the obscene images of child abuse circulated were "known images" (not new), which means they could have been taken down.
The same goes for extremist material.
The providers just seem happy to play the "we're just the conduit" card.
Of course there will be dark and even darker corners of the internet, just as there are in the real world, but that doesn't mean everyone on the internet should be exposed to it by default.
