they are a godsend in some cases trust me ! specially when you need to get into bios and some keyboards via USB fail to work until your past the splash screen haha

another board - think the wifi unit isnt as good as the Aorus one

Hmm perhaps specialist/gaming keyboards etc that require additional drivers might run into this problem. I've got a space basic USB wired mouse and keyboard that works with the standard windows drivers, and *shouldn't* have any issues.

There's also the fact i'd bet that you'd struggle to actually buy a PS/2 keyboard/mouse nowadays. You can probably pick them up off ebay, or buy an adaptor, but if you're trying to troubleshoot your PC problems, you want to be able to buy something now.

EDIT: A quick look at the cheapest keyboards at Argos/PC world show they all have USB connectivity, and no PS/2 options.

PS/2 is technically better for gaming keyboards because of how the interrupts are directly addressed, rather than USB polling for interrupt requests. That means you can do simultaneous key presses on PS/2 and not USB, which is where the entire "N-key rollover" concern comes from. and why harcore/pro gamers swear by PS/2 for their keyboards. Plus if the USB system is loaded up with a lot of devices, keyboard input times can suffer.

Old Tom's Hardware article covers this and does real-world comparisons of PS/2 and USB keyboards.

Whether it's an issue in real life I don't know, but that's the technical reason why PS/2 keyboards are still a thing.
