noticed this mouse has add on sides with multiple buttons.
Is it possible to set these for any custom functions or macros, or do they only work for specific games?

You can programme each button:

"Up to 19 independently programmable Hyperesponse buttons"

You can set them via the Razer synapse software and make custom profiles to be able to swap the functions.
