Mini Cooper S 7 speed auto any good?

Never gotten more than 45mpg actual measured over a tank at motorway speeds in my Fiesta ST. I'm sure if I reset the onboard counter when sat on a nice flat motorway I could get it showing 50 for a while.

I used to get 36 with some town driving and over 50 on the dual carriageway in the ST pretty easily. That was with MP215 upgrade as well. The gt86 isn't quite as good, but do-able if you just sit at 65-70 with cruise control on.

47.5 was the official combined figure on the ST I think, but won't get that in reality with urban driving mixed in.

It’s the extra gear ratios allowing a taller top gear that is helping on the MPG front, extra ratio in the Golf R 7.5 took it from around 42-44 in the older 6 speed to 48-50mpg on a run with the 7 speed.

TT will also spit out around those sorts of numbers.

However peoples definition of a run will make a lot of diff.

Mine seems to stick pretty well to the old addage of +10mph = +10% fuel. It returns around 50mpg at 70, but at 80 its about 45mpg. All indicated by OBC, but distance vs fuel to fill back up seems to validate those sorts of numbers.

A run for me is a trip over 50miles and 1 or 2 mph over the speed limit on the motorway so I’m not crawling past cars on cruise.

Current generation of petrol engines are very good on the fuel consumption helped by the ever increasing number of gears getting put in the auto boxes.

My phone is in my pocket when driving – it’s illegal to use a handheld phone when driving and phones stuck to windscreens are ridiculous, especially when you’ve specced a widescreen nav system with head up display.

On my 5 Series RTTI generally works well and the nav system has a semi accurate arrival time listed which takes into account realtime traffic flow. The Mini doesn’t have this and instead relies on TMC for traffic information which is much less sporadic and reports only traffic events rather than additional delay due to slow traffic flow.

Given that RTTI was introduced by BMW in 2011 on the CIC navigation system it is frustrating and annoying that up until February 2018 it wasn’t available on the Mini – even though it has the slightly newer NBT Evo system which is itself an incremental upgrade over that in my 5 Series and is the same as that found across the BMW range – where RTTI is available.

You shouldn’t have to stick phones with Waze to the dash when you’ve spent £1200 on an upgraded navigation system on a 2018 BMW product. It’s really bad, IMHO.

A decent system will do Android/Iphone screen mirroring, bluetooth etc, maybe it is the BMW system that is lacking? https://mirrorlink.com/cars Any decent driver will set up the system before driving, including sat nav systems.

Well yes, this is exactly my point - the system is lacking in its traffic provision

Android Auto and Apple Car Play I wish BMW would get on and implement it. Its the one option thats stopping me going to BMW, I use Waze almost daily and AA allows me to have it all on one screen. Every hire car I have for work has it now from Vauxhall right up to Volvo.

It's now available across the BMW and Mini range.

I’ve getting Apple Car Play with the next Mini. I haven’t used it before, will it mirror all apps, eg Waze? I was under the impression it will only mirror official Apple apps? Will be great if this is not the case!
