Vega 56 Nano. Ships with Samsung HBM

I can't see how AMD's Nano would've been on 7nm when it was teased to us. Officially, only the new Instinct card is getting a 7nm Vega and it was only recently AMD announced their surprise and joy at how well TSMC's 7nm process was working out and brought Vega 20 and EPYC 2 forward a bit.

Now of course AMD would have known for a while their 7nm stuff was ahead of schedule, but unless there was a plan all along to respin the consumer Vega on 7nm (Vega 12???), I would sincerely doubt any AMD Nano project would have been 7nm, and it was probably cancelled because consumer Vega was received very poorly outside of mining.

Be warned that the Powercolor Vega 56 Nano is not a Vega Nano card, it's a regular Powercolor short PCB Vega 56 with a small cooler that Powercolor are calling the "Nano" (just like they call the same card with a big triple fan cooler the "Red Dragon"). If you're expecting it to run as cool/quiet (without throttling) as the Fury Nano cards did you'll be in for an unwelcome surprise.

This is an important difference, There's a good reason why there's no official Nano version.

The Powercolor Nano will be super loud and it'll throttle, If it was me I'd see if I could fit the Sapphire Vega 56 pulse in the build as it has a short pcb that lets air pass through part of the heatsink easier and as we saw with the Fury Tri-x it makes a difference, If you can fit Sapphires 2 fan Vega 56 pulse in the case it'll be quieter and it's likely to be cheaper to buy than Powercolor's Nano will be.

That said it is possible they're not released yet because Powercolor are cherry picking them from their own stock, I wouldn't place a bet on that though.

I think you're getting a little confused, I was talking about the 7nm Vega Nano which Sweeney showed (a non-functional mock up) of last July (since quietly cancelled) which would have had the same performance as a Vega 64 with 2/3 the power consumption (as AMD claimed it would be inline with the Fury-X to R9 Nano improvements).

Where did you hear this? I'm sure there was plenty of speculation for what it is but I can't find anything valid for it being a 7nm Vega and more importantly I can't see them having 7nm Vega card's to give away when the 14nm Vega's haven't even released yet.

The one he was presented by amd? First i've heard of that being 7nm, Wasn't mentioned in the presentation at least.

Seems like only Tim Sweeney is worthy of an aluminium shroud.

I'd put money on that being a fake, ie: Mr Koduri is actually handing him a Fury Nano as we now know how underhanded Mr Koduri's been while heading up RTG, If not a Fury it was a one off 14nm Vega prototype as not a single Nano has been released since then.

It wasn't a real card lol, it was a mockup of the proposed die shrunk Vega Nano to be built/released either later this year or early next year. Of course nothing has come of it and the project has been quietly cancelled as focus has shifted to Navi.

There was absolutely nothing to even suggest it not being a real card or a 7nm version. Pics of the card and some of the comments on sites say it was a working sample. Do you think amd would miss the chance to say they were giving the worlds first 7nm gpu to a game engine developer? It's very possible it was just one of a few samples of nano that were created before they decided to just leave it to board partners to do. And there's no way it was 7nm considering this was in July 2017.

During their event at at SIGGRAPH 2017, Radeon Technology Group SVP and Chief Architect, Raja Koduri, invited Founder of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, to the stage to say wonderful things about AMD hardware and at the same time, give him one of the first working samples of RX Vega Nano.

You're misreading.

The object shown in July 2017 was not 7nm, nor was it an actual graphics card. It was a mock up (ergo fake object) of a planned future 7nm card that would (had the idea not been scrapped post Vega launch) have followed on from Vega 64/56 later this year or early next year.

So as I said it was a fake. Where are you getting your "it was a mock-up of a 7nm Vega" info from? It wasn't from that event as he intentionally made it look like he was handing over a working Vega Nano and a Threadripper CPU that he'd be able to take home or to work and use straight away if he wanted.
