We are edging towards a new kitchen and have already agreed we want to have 2x single ovens rather than one large/double one.

We were looking at all the options on elec and are likely to get a couple from the same manufacturer but offering different options eg steam etc

But I was wondering if there is any benefit of having one gas and one elec. I assume that a gas one could be used if you have an electric power cut, or is this a bad assumption? I know we could use our hob last time we had a power cut, but does an oven need electric as well?

But is there any other potential benefit to gas? We do have a gas supply already in that area for the hob so I am assuming no issues with supply. In my mind gas ovens are basic offerings, but are there high tech versions the same as elec really?

I am googling a bit but as ever OCUK usually has people who have considered similar

Yes they work in a power cut but how many power cuts do you get nowadays? Gas is more "instant" electric takes time to heat up. Gas ovens don't have thermostats so you'll have to get used to "Gas mark 5" etc in recipes.

I would have one of both :p, love a good home made cake in a glass oven ;), but electric is great for being able to cook on all the shelves, at roughly the same temp

Thanks guys :) , just had a look and seems all the pros of gas are pretty poor, and some of the negatives are pretty darn negative.

So looks like original plan, 2x elec ovens and a gas hob :)

gas is a hell of a lot cheaper though. but yeah electric with a fan is consistent heat. gas you need to baby food. electric you can have a timer and leave it be an it will switch off itself.

We went 2 x electric full sized ovens (one with microwave) and induction hob. Don't regret it one bit. The combo is smart so we can turn it on or off when out which gives a little more flexibility than a timer.

Gas or induction for the hob, electric oven - that's my own preference. I currently have a gas oven and don't think it's great, but the hob is fantastic.

Can't see any reason to deviate from this ^

We have electric oven and gas hobs, despite not being on mains gas (propane). Might go induction when we eventually replace, mostly just for the easier cleaning.

... but modern gas ovens are fan-assisted eg https://www.smeg.com/product/oven/sf9300ggvx1/

and if also much more powerful like gas hobs.(eg 3kw burners versus meagre boost on an induction) could be up to temp fast.
But humidity (not for open plan?) and cost/maintenance might be prohibitive.

seems that has a gas grill too .. (what else do you typically use in a top oven anyway) so does that mean fast and much more even browning/sausages/cheese-toast etc. instant off too - that could sell it to me.
- need to find a shop where you can try one. (ref one is lpg)
