Hi guys

I need help! I am back and forth with deciding what to put in this build and it is driving me crazy, so I've decided to come here for some help.

Basically this will be a gaming build @ 1080p (possibly higher) I am also moving house soon and will be having an entirely new setup so I'm aiming for aesthetics in this build (primarily a white and black build)

I'll list below what I have chosen and what I'm unsure off.

Case - NZXT S340 Elite (White)
Mobo - ASUS Z370 Prime P ATX
CPU - 8700K
CPU cooler - Kraken x62 ( I will be OCing)
RAM - Corsair 16GB Vengeance RGB @ 3000Mhz
PSU - Already sorted
GPU? - I am back and forth between a 1080 or the 1070/1070ti (all EVGA FTW/2), due to me being unsure of what monitor to get
Monitor? - I'm debating upgrading to either the LG 25UM58 Ultrawide IPS monitor, an ASUS VX24AH 1440p OR a 144hz monitor.. resolutions would go up to 2560x1080/1440p or stay at 1080p with the 144hz respectively.. Would this make make it a better move to go with the 1070ti/1080?

I haven't used any of these monitors before so I honestly don't know the difference, I really like the thought of an ultra wide but I need a second opinion.. Also the UW and 1440p monitors are 5 & 4 ms whereas the 144hz is 1 ms.. Do most people even notice the difference?

My head hurts thinking about all this lol

I basically have £1500 to spend but if I can save a few quid that would be great, I obviously want this to be as future proof as possible for 4-5 years. If you've made it this far and have any helpful advice, it would be much appreciated..

Thanks!

Hi

Any of those gpu's (GTX 1070/1070 ti/1080) will do fine for 1080p or 1440p. Obviously the GTX 1080 will last a tiny bit longer but you can always adjust a few graphics settings in the future anyway to boost the fps. You should also maybe consider the Vega 56/64 as FreeSync monitors are cheaper than G-Sync equivalent if you are going down that road. The Vega 56 is roughly on par with a GTX 1070 and the Vega 64 a GTX 1080.

Have you looked at the newer NZXT H500 ? Not sure what the differences are but it is the S340 successor. Also the Asus Prime Z370-A would be my choice for motherboard as it is a bit higher end for overclocking and doesn't break the bank.

Thanks for the proper answers guys, I've been both AMD and Nvidia and tbh I couldn't wait to get my Radeon card out of my system, I had a 280x and it aged so badly I think it put my of AMD for life, and when the cards cost this much I would rather stick to what I've had good experiences with, but thanks! It will be another month before I'm building so I'm gonna keep my eye on the 1080's and see if I can get it into my budget, maybe I'll pick one up on offer!

I'll also look into the H500 and look up some more on my mobo

Now I need to decide between 1440p, 144hz or 2560x1080 UW.. Any thoughts? I play WoW and FPS's like quake, I know FPS's aren't great in UW but I can just play them at 16:9..

I never troll and for an extra £300 you are getting a high end system
That £300 wasn't including the motherboard you suggested, which was another £300 amounting to £600 above my budget.. A not-even-slightly-helpful and ridiculous comment don't you think?

if it was £600 then why did you say £300 after I asked you in the above post
Post a link to every item you are getting I will see how much extra it is myself

Right below that price I put an EDIT of me realizing you also suggested a very expensive mobo compared to the one I suggested, which you quoted. All my items have been listed, you have google.

Ok this is what i got with the list of parts that you have asked for plus a 1070ti and storage as you did not mention anything about SSD's or a HDD:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,444.48 (includes shipping: £12.60)

As you can see this is going over £1400 without a monitor and as you said you have £1500 for tower and monitor.

Swap out to Ryzen 2600 and Vega64, the 2600 will be slightly slower than the 8700k but at 1440p it wont be much, and to make up for it the Vega64 will be slightly faster than the 1070ti.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,561.17 (includes shipping: £15.30)

Slightly over budget but if you get another 18 posts in the forums you will be able to get free shipping as a loyal member :) you need 100 forum posts and been a member for over 12 months

£40 steam voucher on the board, 3 free games with amd gpu

DE
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,507.78 (includes shipping: £15.90)

nvidia, monitor might require looking else were to get a better deal

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,718.84 (includes shipping: £0.00)
they arent pretty but hey

I honestly feel nauseous even thinking about making a full AMD build, although I love being able to fit a freesync monitor in right now.. I've always been intel, and like I said always been with nvidia apart from the one time I got a 280x and I regretted buying it after a month and also it aged terribly for me.. Also for a white and black build, there doesn't seem to be any AMD cards that would fit.

I've been doing some searching and put together a 8700k/1080 build for about £1300 (i already have SSD and HDD). I could wait another couple of months to get a little more money for a nice G-Sync monitor, I feel this build would be a little more future proof. What you guys think?

october will see 2070 land, dont think it'll be as powerful or maybe match 1080ti but will offer more grunt then 1080 . Black OC 1080Ti is a blinding card , but the case lies in G-Sync monitor - if your willing to save for it then worth doing so .

wouldn't wait to long to say buy the whole thing, no doubt intel prices will rise and then 9th Gen 8 Core will enter the market, so long as you know, your potentially buying a 6 core intel which is being superseded byt 8 core 8 thread 9700k and 9900k 8 core 16 thread. the non K 8700 should still be in play as thats damn good for workstation related work on a h370/b360 board .

also Z390 boards replace middle and high end Z370- so if going Z370- buy a damn good one!!!! will kick yourself if a budget z390 comes out for cheaper and performs better .

you'll find currently most of us will quote AMD to get the better GPU and monitor in, plus we are finally seeing intel crumble and starting to produce something rather then the same bull they have been for so long! actually they are falling over themselves with production so hence the cost rises...

if going 1440p/ 1440p ultra wide/4k then could think about i5 8600k and overclock to 5ghz ?

I don't think I'll be waiting for the 2070 as prices will still probably be ranging around the £6-700 mark, but I'm very interested in the G-Sync monitor.. specifically this one Dell S2716DG, what do you's think about this?

What is the rumored release date for the 9th Gen? October also? I would hold out for the 9700K if it was around the same price point but some how I doubt that, which is why I just want to go ahead with the 8th gen CPU.. I mean they're still very good cpu's..

Yeah I completely understand why you's are recommending AMD and I appreciate it, but I will save up a little longer if it means sticking with the brand I've had the better experiences with.

I would stick with an IPS panel such as the AOC in Orbitals spec above. There is also the Acer Predator for the same price. Better colour reproduction and viewing angles with IPS.

The i7 9700K might be similar in price but that is 8c/8t so we will have to wait and see how it compares to the 6c/12t 8700K for gaming. Not sure if there is any date set in stone but Oct 8th is what I keep seeing.

You can use ocuk prices to compare. Your cpu, board and ram suggestions come to nearly £1300. He has a £1500 budget which includes a gpu, case and cooler and maybe other items. You are not going to be able to do with with ~£200 that is left over.
