Sudden black screen. After reset can’t get beyond motherboard logo.

Suddenly I got a black screen and after a moment my computer restarted but it didn’t go beyond the first motherboard screen. That’s the one where it says Gigabyte, ultra-durable tm Series Motherboards. It shows available options like Del, F9, F12, End but none of those options work so I can do nothing.

After a while, maybe 30-40 seconds, the screen goes black, but the computer still works. Well, all the fans are spinning.

Could you please suggest me what to do in order to find out what is wrong?

I have some spare components to test some if needed but I am not sure where to begin.

My very wild guesses could be that my main SSD drive where I have Windows stopped working but I have no idea really. I sticked in the pen drive with Windows 10 but it does nothing. The main problem here is that I can’t get into the bios setup by clicking Del or anything.

Other idea would be motherboard but technically it runs.

Any help?

My motherboard is Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H

Graphic card: GTX970

I don’t have any HDD, just 3 x SSD

Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155

Does the board have dual bios ? what were you doing before shutting down / rebooting, did you flash the bios or even have that damn live update software installed ? that quietly runs in the back ground and does stupid things like download and flash the bios in windows without you knowing about it.

try a barebones system, unplug all your drives from the motherboard, it maybe stuck scanning a dying drive for information, you only have to remove the data cables from the board, just have connected: your keyboard, mouse, CPU, CPU cooler, 1 stick of ram, graphics card if required, ie if you have on-board graphics then remove your GPU and use the on-board, then add 1 thing at a time testing inbetween to find out whats holding it up.

It is so strange. I had a similar problem when I was building this rig 5 years ago. I just didn’t remember how exactly I have fixed it. And the solution is incredibly simple! I just needed to turn off the power supply, turn it back on and start the computer again. I really don’t understand what’s going on, I just have a feeling that it has something to do with my SSD.

By the way the crash happened as I was playing an old Steam game, Fallout Tactics but I play that game for few weeks now and didn’t have any crashes before. (Actually, I had but crashes to Windows occasionally).

Anyway, thank you very much for your reply, I was panicking because I need this computer for work and I just came back from holiday where I already exceeded my planned budget by a lot, so I would have a big problem if I had to buy some new parts for replacement.
