Been sold a mined on graphics card on the bay

Buy a used car that's done 100k miles in a few months you'd be a bit suspicious.
I know it's a crap analogy but you know what I mean. As long as it works though I'd be happy. For the right price too.

Even if it had been mined on, mining has no bearing on a physical "as new" condition.

Seems a bit of an overreaction. Presumably it was cheap enough in the first place that you should have expected it to be a card from a mining rig (arguably any "cheap" 1060/1070/rx570/rx580/vega is likely to be ex-mining at this point)

Mining doesn't change the performance of a card?

personally as new on computer equipment should be "as new"
Mining on a GPU does not lower/change performance of the cards.

Mining can in theory potentially shortens the life of a card, but actuallfrom experience, mining on a GPU doesn't usually cause that to happen.

possibly the life shortening of the dooddads wizzing about in the silicon is balanced out of the reduced heat/cool cycles of the cards?

As new= bs
Perfect condition = more bs.

Neither are true.
But equally you can't prove they are false?

Physically looks and performs like a new card, and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Perfect condition - unless you've got some sort of way of analysing the silicon, then to all intents and purpose the item is in perfect physical condition.

Having it on full pelt 24/7 for X weeks. Isn't light use or as new.
Mining<>Bad.

Yes it may have been run 24/7, but it's not necessarily at full load (as most mining algorithms don't max all parts of the card out), fans are likely to have been run at constant speed, and in all likelihood the card has been run at lower voltages. As opposed to your "gamers" card that is subjected to thermal cycling due to being used/turned off/used/turned off, varying fan speed as it spins up during a game and then down again, and probably more likely to have been overclocked "because need more fps".

I personally dont think it would be damaged either, but saying those isn't true at all.

I was thinking the same, on computer items "as new" should really mean hardly used....

It's more like buying a TV that's in perfect physical condition and then complaining because the seller admitted to using it with the backlight set to full for a few weeks. If mining with a GPU leads to premature death then it's down to bad design/manufacturing as mining is within a GPU's capabilities. I think the OP needs to explain what he means by performance being drastically low, if he's simply underwhelmed with the GTX1070 as a product it's not the sellers fault.

If I knew the card was mined on I wouldn't of bought it In the first place.

This has dented my confidence in the product and there is no proof to suggest that the card is in fact '9 weeks old' he hasn't provided any receipt or invoice which dates back 9 weeks ago.

My assumptions are that it's been mined on for afew years at least and that he has hidden this from the buyer to get the best price possible for it.

So because the seller was 100% honest with you when you asked him if it had been mined on, you now think hes a liar and has lied about the information in the listing?

He could have very easily just said no when you asked him if it had been mined on.

Firstly, 'have'. Secondly, why? As mentioned above, mining has very little real-world effect on GPUs. The only reason people make such a big deal about it is so they can haggle the price lower. If that was such a bone of contention to you, why didn't you ask?

TBH this sounds like you've got a perfectly working card and some buyers remorse.

Well he hasn't actually been honest about the listing has he? How do I know its only 9 weeks just on a random strangers word?

He would have a receipt/invoice which he hasnt provided and said he wouldn't provide.

How do you know its performing worse do you have 3dmark link? to show your card is performing badly?

what are your system specs.

Did you run DDU before installing the new card ?

Also a link to the listing as all this is very fishy

Hes not been dishonest at all. If you have an issue with cards that have been used to mine with, then you should have asked the seller before hand. I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill here TBH.

As for receipt, again, you should have asked first if he could provide this if this is something you want. I'm not sure I'd be 100% happy about sending one to an internet stranger depending on what information is on it. I guess you could blank out any sensitive stuff though.

He’s offered a refund less postage which is fair enough, he didn’t mention mining nor did you ask.

Most likely the “performance issue” is down to your system.

Get a refund and ask more questions next time or just do a fresh windows and driver install if you want the performance to be 100% (I always do this when changing a GPU) if you’re still not happy get the refund.

I asked for The receipt and he said he wouldn't provide it, so there is no. Evidence to say its 9 weeks old
