If people look about for the actual story rather than just trigger responding it looks like it's just for Student Union events and in line with BSL to be more inclusive.

The ease at which people lose their collective over non-stories is hilarious.

Looks like plenty have been reeled in, you lot are funny. :D
It makes 0 sense. The idea that you do jazz hands instead of clapping is because what? Clapping makes a sound which they can't hear? So we do something visual instead by waving our hands, except clapping does have the benefit of the visual movement of the hands and the noise? It's completely ******* pointless. This reduces the applause it doesn't add anything.

It's because most audiences clap low down toward the lap, which isn't very visual. The obvious answer would be to clap above the head, making it highly visual but retaining the noise for those who can hear it.

But I'm sure there will be those with arm-raising impariments or one hand, or something, who will be championed by the Students...

Bring back caning, casual beatings and coal mines, country was so much better back then.
Doesn't work. Makes it worse. Everyone turns evil. Scientists have proven, studies have shown, blah blah blah. Evidence all posted in the other thread.

It's completely ******* stupid. Do jazz hands, because deaf people can't hear clapping, even though they can see it. Except now you've ****** off blind people because now not only can they not see the clapping, they can't hear it either because now everyones doing jazz hands.

These people running the union are morons.

Again, low down, can't see.
Suggestion for improvement already made, but if you'd rather just rant against whatever then the Student Union is still accepting members...
Deaf people can't see people clapping their hands? What are they doing it in their pockets? If you're standing up people usually bring there hands together at chest level, pretty high. And if everyone's seated it's in their laps, which again everyone can see. It's such a farcical argument.

What about blind people, or are you just going to conveniently ignore that point that now jazz handing alienates them?

No more than visually unimpaired people can read forum posts...

At a concert, movie or theatre, in the dark - Most people in the audience wouldn't see that anyway, and if you're on stage with the lights in your face too, all you'll see is a bunch of silhouetted heads and shoulders in rows.
So no, not farcical in the slightest.

Yes, I'm going to ignore it just like you already ignored what I already said to cover that.

Yeah all those things that go on in a student union, the only thing dark in my student union was the night club. And it's a nightclub good luck regulating peoples behaviour in there.

Also clapping above your head at the theatre. Yeah sounds like a great plan. lol.

Also how does your clapping above the head account for the people who get anxiety from loud noises?

Or here's the most sane option. Stop trying to cater for absolutely everything because it's impossible and just go with the universally accepted thing that anyone who can hit something against something else can do, which is clap.

It's alright, we'll all be under a brutal Russian rule within a few generations if the British people have become this soft because we'd have to immediately surrender to any declaration of war to avoid triggering the mentally weak.

Its a scary thought though isn't it? Imagine been forced into war and you're surrounded by fairies and people who cry at getting called nasty names. Jesus christ. It's like that type writer dude in saving private Ryan.
