AMD's answer to RTX - 7nm Vega

And pretty much everything since has been utter crap (with a few minor exceptions). As I said, I was red over 15 years - I first started building systems in the early 90s starting with old unix servers running system v and vms - I was a loyal AMD builder from the very start (welll almost I missed K5) with K6, Athlon64, Phenom and then Bulldozer before getting my 6700k - you will be hard pressed to find many people who have used as many AMD products for as long as I have - but facts are facts and AMD cannot match Nvidia for performance on GPUs and haven't been able to for some time.

The X800 series was good, the X1900 series was very good, the 3870 was a good mid range card, the 4870, 5870 and 7970 were all fantastic.

Indeed, think paladine has a convenient case of amnesia when it comes to these cards. In his mind 9700 then virtually nothing.

Agreed there has imo been a good amount of competitive and good value cards. People who bought r9 290x at launch for example have had some serious life out of that card and to be fair it still manages really well today. Sure so they haven't had the performance crown in a while but does it really matter that much?

I think from my point of view, if they released 7nm vega id pretty much buy one straight away and not even predominantly for it's gaming credentials, sure I like the fact it can game but it's compute capabilities are equally as important to me.

nvidia did , and people buying it till its out of stock :D

Not as many as it seems. Out of stock doesn't mean much if stock is quite limited. The 1080ti was a lot cheaper and only 1.5% of people have them on Steam.

The 480 has done well over the years.

Yea my XFX one was still performing surprisingly well when I sold it a couple of weeks ago. It got a lot better a few driver updates in.

It was an 8gb card for £250 when Nvidia were selling a 3gb card for the same price. One can handle modern games in high detail, the other is ram limited :p

My current rig has R9 390X, my previous cards were R9 290, HD7870, HD6870, HD5870 forget what I had before that but prior to that I also owned a couple of Rage cards, 7500 cards etc. My first Nvidia since about 2001 was the 980Ti (which is currently in my wife's machine). Prior to my 6700k I always had AMD CPUs as well apart from an Intel DX2 back in the days when you were probably still messing your diaper.

Also every post an attack on AMD? That is just baseless crap - I have barely mentioned AMD in any of my posts and I have been posting here for about 12 years...

But you posted the opposite of all the above on an another discussion few weeks back that you always bought Nvidia

Also what happened to the RTX preorders (2 card) you boasted all that time and defended your pre order numerous times?

Totally different core though, it was allegedly meant to perform much better than it turned out so they had to go with this "disruptive product" thing to put a positive spin on it.

Wasn't totally different core though, just another reiteration of GCN which is why it didn't scale as well.

the 480/580 is still a failure when looked at in terms of die size and transistor count, memory bandwidth, power consumption. Yes, it does perform OK at the price point, but that comes down to AMD making tight margins. Forma consumer perspective that matters little.

he/she just suffers from delusions. haha barely mentioned amd lol i dont think i have enough time to post all the quotes that are pro nvidia

Please do show me where I posted I always buy Nvidia? I have 2x 2080Ti FE on pre-order and if you actually read what I type instead of making crap up you would know already they are due to arrive October 8th. I still defend my purchase - they are incredibly powerful cards (the most powerful consumer GPUs on the market by a LONG way) but as I said, for over 15 years I was Team Red. I still have my 2 Barton Core Athlons (hard modded), my Phenom II 965 Black Edition, my FX 8320 and my wife's old FX 6300. I gave away my older AMD GPUs (still have the R9 390X though) to friends and family.

Writing Pro Nvidia posts is a very different thing to writing anti AMD posts - as I said - please DO SHOW me all these bountiful anti AMD posts I have made - because I can't find them and I have been through my post history...

The 480 was a continuation of a price/performance stagnation.
...and Nvidia's 960Ti probably still sold more despite being much slower at similar price, and Nvidia believe grimed 128-bit cards should be sold at £160~£180+...

The RX480 was a really good value card for the performance it offered at around £180. In a way it is like a HD5850 in terms of bang for bucks back in its days.

Mate, don't let them get to you. Unless you sing AMD praises from the rooftop, you are an NVidia fanboy. I am sitting here with a 290X awaiting my 2080Ti, which has now been moved to the 30th October and I am thinking of canceling and going for something else. As for 7nm AMD, the sooner the better I say. NVidia pricing is crazy at present and competition is healthy and I would have no qualms about buying another AMD GPU if it has the performance.
