8GB vs 11GB another 2080 vs 1080ti q

I do not get why people keep mentioning dlss it really is not something that is or will be "change gaming" it is not bad but people have already shown how you can get the same kind of quality and fps just by upscaling with taa.


The thing is it has the potential to be exactly that "Game changing" that is.


Still waiting for a real game using DLSS to see exactly what's what

This is the question we need answering, how well will it work in a real game, because the only two examples we have seen are Final fantasy, which they say has a terrible AA implementation anyway and the Infiltrator demo, which looks good but it is still a set piece.

Just because we have a video that says it can be done with rendering at mid way resolution, how many games allow you to pick that sort of resolution.

It is early days yet and for me the jury is still out on DLSS, it has vast potential, we just need to be patient to see how NVidia and the game developers use it.

Ray tracing, considering how good the BFV demo looked, you can clearly see the potential. People say that it didn't look like real life, well maybe it was overblown to make the point, but war isn't exactly pretty either. with vast spaces of nothing to do then ten frantic minutes of heroism, games are not like that at all.

People are saying Ray tracing at only 1080p 60fps, I say have you looked at the benches for shadow of the tomb raider for example

Not exactly rocking massive frame rates there.
For Ray tracing and the associated lighting/shadow effects it can bring it will take time.
They will get it right eventually, but probably not with this set of cards.
 
which is why I am beginning to have doubts about DLSS in the Turing cards. At the moment you can disable a few settings and lower the detail levels and still get the same image quality but lots of extra performance. You would need to analyze the frame in detail to see the differences. Now DLSS comes along, it's going to offer a 30% performance increase (supposedly) But, it doesn't look at good as the real 4K according to the Video by hardware unboxed. So if it won't look as good isn't that the same as turning down the detail levels on the 1080Ti at 4K so that it looks almost as good during gameplay?

But, it's looking like Ray Tracing is going to be the only real difference between the 1080Ti and the 2080. It's up to the person buying if the £100+ extra price is worth it for that.
Yeah. I was very excited about the RTX tech, but more I read and see the less impressed I become. But as I said before, I will reserve judgement about DLSS until next year when the 30 series comes out.
 
The performance is nearly like for like and should over the long term favour the 2080 + RT + DLSS. If buying new and coming from a GPU where it is WORTH the upgrade I would still be buying a 2080 over the 1080ti.

Anyone with a 1070ti/1080 or 1080ti it is not worth upgrading to the 2000 series.

At 4k resolution maybe*

Anything less definitely.

(But not at these crazy prices.)

We are at the end of the day discussing the difference between a 1080ti and 2080. I personally feel it's worth spending the extra £130. But that's just me.

Digital Foundry have done all the hard work here to bench both cards.

The conclusion pretty much tallys up with what I said above.
 
Sadly its a half arsed review, "we only did 4k due to time constraints", then dont release the review till you done everything, simples.

Or at the very least add more data a day or so later, but here we are many days later and its still a 4k only review.
 
think of the 2080 as really being a rebadged 2070. would you buy a 2070 over a 1080ti for £120 more?

the only way that gets faster than a 1080ti is if Nvidia nerf the drivers which they already have started doing with 400.xx for a 10x cards. quite a drop
in fps in the first driver which has yet to be fully rectified.

They won't nerf the drivers (they took a lot of flak last time they did it, Kepler I think) they simply move their focus away from maximising the performance they can get out of the 10 series and focus on maximising the performance of the 20 series.
We've already seen this with the new Forza Horizon game,
What games are you seeing an fps drop in then?
 
2080FE is a great card for cooling and noise if coming from a 1080 or below. If I was buying a new card today I would always get the newest tech. 10 series is going to be irrelevant.

so you' d buy a slower card just cos it has 'new tech'. Interesting.
