Woman Blinded At Ryder Cup

What does she expect to get...?

A guy broke his leg near that spot due to sliding down a wet grass verge where the crowds were congregating and subsequently trapped his ankle in a rabbit hole (or similar). Is that now somehow the marshals fault as well?

Really grinds my gears when people's initial thought is to try and cause expense to someone else inappropriately. Claim off Brooks' insurance, simple as that...

I deal with Personal Injury claims where people trip over a kerb or fall over on a dry corridor only to claim 2 days later that they fell in our buildings.

"Did you report it to anybody"
"No there was no one around"
"So you were in a hospital and you couldn't find one staff member to tell?"
"No I couldn't find anybody"
"So you went to see a relative on a ward, did you speak to one of the staff members there?"
"There was nobody to talk to"

I know the NHS is understaffed but come on.

When I read about this, I was obviously sympathetic of the horrible incident - However, but initial thoughts were... HOW CAN SHE SUE?! :p

Seriously, if she wins this lawsuit, are we destined to see golf crowds protected by a massive transparent window, while wearing hard hats, safety glasses and high vis?

A horrible thing to have happened, of course, but surely she must have known the risk of this happening?

That's surely a typo?

That equates to 18k euros a year. If that was the case i'd be amazed if much of the French population had insurance.
Yea, that's right. Ours is slightly more as we have cross border insurance allowing us to get treatment in Switzerland as well. In general though it's all pretty expensive (trip to the docs is 30 euros just for a medical note for your kid to play basketball!)

A friend of mine has lived and worked in France for years but comes back to the UK from time to time for medical treatment on the NHS - I have absolutely no idea how that works and have never thought to ask her - I will when next I see her.

As an aside, the practice of charging people to see a doctor might discourage people from frivolously wasting NHS Doctor's time.

As a second (but more on-topic) aside, I believe that Ms Remande lives in Egypt.

Agree with this. The UK might have less of a GP strain if they did!

Yes, but they've clamped down a lot recently on the whole going back for treatment. My wife wanted to come to the UK for her recent hip replacement, but we couldn't get through the system without living there. Which is reassuring in a way :P

I'd like to know that also. When we moved to France, we had to write to the NHS stating we now live in France and will not make use of the NHS.

It was just a freak accident wasn't it ?

So many golf events throughout the year pass without major incident. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I have great sympathy for the lady, I imagine most people would not expect to come away from a sporting event blinded in one eye, but this is just a freak accident. I don't see why there should be any liability involved.
