Why do all the 3rd party 2080/2080Ti cards look ridiculous?

Hey All,

What are going through the designers minds with these 2080/2080Ti cards, they all look ridiculous apart from the NVidia FE model, you would think for the asking price they at least would look better, then there is the size, they could put some effort into keeping them to two slots wide.

It appears all they have done is chucked a massive heat sink on, bolted the fans on top, wrapped them in cheap flimsy plastic trim and kicked them out the door.

They look like kids toys :(

Yeah you're right they look pretty crap to be honest the Asus 2080ti looks like a 560 I had years ago and at an asking price of £1400 ? no i dont think so

Although I'm probably going to skip this generation now anyway, I was planning on getting an EVGA 2080, but having now seen them, the card is really ugly compared to my current EVGA 1070 FTW.

Would probably have gone MSI based on this gen from a aesthetic standpoint.

Are different designs likely or is this now it until next gen?

Well I think this is it for this gen , but that price though, if they want to charge a premium , then i would want premium which includes looks too

You're not picking out curtains, go water and be done with it if you're conscious about your looks :p

I've a Strix 2080 here, it looks really nice in the flesh.

Indeed. Pull the cooler off and put a nice water block on - job done.

Having said that, even they are starting to get blingy with flashing lights etc

If aesthetics weren't an issue, RGB wouldn't be a thing. Except almost everything is RGB.

If aesthetics weren't an issue then braided cables wouldn't be a thing. Except they are.

If aesthetics weren't an issue then cases with windows wouldn't be a thing. I could go on.

My first PC, a Pentium 3 with 512mb of ram and a Geforce 2 MX, was purely utilitarian. Since then, parts have come to be designed with aesthetics in mind. Let's not try and pretend otherwise.

Who cares what they look like wouldn't bother me if they were pink with green stripes

Most PC sold are OEMs which don't have windows, so its not a thing, its a niche thing.

Duke looks nice, as does the trio, the Zotac amp does as well, it's just plain black with no real "bling" about it. The cards can draw over 300 watts so most of the vendors have decided to go with far bigger heatsinks this time around.
