Item on Amazon says free delivery, but can't choose free delivery

As title. I'm trying to buy a few things and made sure that the "Free UK Delivery by Amazon" checkmark was checked when searching. I found what I wanted and it says Free Delivery in bold on the items's page too. So I add them to my basket, go to checkout and notice there's a delivery charge, which is the same bloody price as the items I'm trying to buy, added and no way to select free delivery.

What gives?

Sounds like it's a cheap item. Are you sure it's not an add on item?

Total order is well above the £20 threshold and all items qualify for free delivery.

Are you a prime subscriber? That's usually what it says for prime items when not logged in / not a prime subscriber.

This has been happening for about 10 years now. Many times on the product page states FREE delivery then at checkout they add delivery for everything. Utter pain and waste of time.

Funny thing is if I order each item separately it honours free delivery. But if say 10 items are in the same basket it will add £50 for delivery lol. No idea what the logic is behind that.

Isn't it because you need £20 worth of items?
My last order was £5.99 and even though it said free delivery I needed £20 worth to get free delivery so I ended up paying £1.99 P&P.

Anyhow, rather than faff about with it I just ordered them via a work colleague's Prime account.

It's not £20 worth of items tho is it. It's £20 worth of qualifying items. Ie from Amazon or fulfilled by Amazon sellers.

You can order £1000 of stuff and not qualify for Amazon's free delivery.

Anyway I never find Amazon to be the cheapest for just about anything these days.

Yeah agreed. I ebay most of the stuff now.

Infact, as issues go, the few I have had from ebay have been sorted out straight away, the one I had from Amazon was a PITA.

I've always been lucky then but like you say, if I can't find free delivery I pop over to eBay and buy from there and mostly have it delivered to Argos.
However, with the £6 item they hadn't got it on eBay so I had to fork out a whole £2 postage.
