Probably not, but I'm struggling to think of many of the OP's suggestions worth bothering with for 2.5k if he expects them to work without major investment.
Damn, you were getting my hopes up

He is asking for a track car, not a dailyWhat about the older ST170 Focus? Can easily be had for 1-1.5k. The mk1 was always an excellent handling car and felt really light and nimble to chuck around.
He was considering a Focus ST225 and a Corsa VXR so the ST170 Focus I suggested is no different as a cheap track car. In fact it’s probably more fun to chuck around than the heavier ST225 And won’t fall to bits like the CorsaHe is asking for a track car, not a daily
There weren't really any around for that five years ago, let alone today. Are there many 200sx's around that are worth bothering with for 2.5k?

I didn’t say it was I suggested it because he can get a well looked after private example for 1k-1.5k easily giving him plenty of money left over to mod it and strip it out etc. Some of the cars mentioned for his budget are going to either be double the price, proper sheds at that price point or be quite expensive to maintainMy mum has one. It is an ok car but not in the same ball park as ep3, beemers and the like mentioned.
I don't think you'll have to many problems with the Subaru 2000 Turbo. The 2.0 boxers are quite solid, it was the 2.5s that had issues.
Buy and fit a baffled sump and oil cooler to your STi. Get some decent tyres. Enjoy.
To be fair, not often an issue on the road for which it was designed.
