Dedicated Track Car

He is asking for a track car, not a daily
He was considering a Focus ST225 and a Corsa VXR so the ST170 Focus I suggested is no different as a cheap track car. In fact it’s probably more fun to chuck around than the heavier ST225 And won’t fall to bits like the Corsa

My mum has one. It is an ok car but not in the same ball park as ep3, beemers and the like mentioned.

I don't think you'll have to many problems with the Subaru 2000 Turbo. The 2.0 boxers are quite solid, it was the 2.5s that had issues.

I didn’t say it was I suggested it because he can get a well looked after private example for 1k-1.5k easily giving him plenty of money left over to mod it and strip it out etc. Some of the cars mentioned for his budget are going to either be double the price, proper sheds at that price point or be quite expensive to maintain

The problem with a Subaru 2000 is that power is very low and due to weight etc are inherently expensive to track. My GT-Four is in a different league compared to my friends MX5. Of course my car is faster but the costs are doubled. You also need big power to get any fun out of them as they just grip.

Buy and fit a baffled sump and oil cooler to your STi. Get some decent tyres. Enjoy.

And the Spec C or similar anti surge tank for the fuel pump.

Yeah, it’s most likely the lack of baffled sump that blew my engine up. That or that odd underfuelling on one cylinder when you run under 1/4 tank.

Who would have thought a rallyish sports car designed to drive fast would have such a problem with using its available cornering ability at mid-high rpm.

Absurd design flaw, I’m surprised there wasn’t a big case against them or recall to resolve the faults.
