So my PC isn't bad at all. Latest i7, 1080ti etc. In fact I am toying with the idea of buying a 2080ti. Anyway, I have Forza horizon 4 on xbox game pass. So I get both xbox and PC. Cheers MS!! My PC is in the loft and until today I couldn't be arsed to go up and play FH4. So I've been playing on Xbox One X. It's bloody lovely. 4k, 60fps. So I played on PC today. Cranked everything up and it runs lovely at 100fps GSync 3240x1440 super wide lovliness. Thing is the Xbox looks better imho. Maybe it is HDR, maybe 4k but the PC on my monitor, (which was just shy of £1k not long ago!!), just looks flat and a bit lifeless in comparison. I went back to the Xbox! Same with sea of thieves. So my point is, maybe I don't need the latest and greatest GPU after all. Maybe what I need is a spanking new HDR monitor? Like I said I love my PC and will never part with it but for me this is a real eye opener. Any thoughts?

Some thoughts: TV's tend to over-saturate. A monitor tends to have a more accurate colour reproduction, but requires calibration for full accuracy plus the right setup (correct bit depth etc). There are a lot of variables there that can make one look duller than the other ... HDR on PC is btw barely a thing yet as standards aren't quite up to snuff just yet. And then there's display tech to consider, such as a TN panel looking quite rubbish compared to an IPS.

FH4 on Xbox One X doesn't run at 4K 60fps but 4k 30 or 1080p 60...
Yes that is true. Im on the 60fps mode on a 4k TV. If it's 1080p then frankly I do not notice. It looks amazing. The TV is good too so that will help obviously. I think the issue for me is that I have not used my PC for ages. I've been away the entire summer with work so was unable to use it. I was just suprised as usually when I fire up a console game on the PC it is far superior. Maybe the TV is just making things look more vibrant etc. The One X does quite easily push 60fps though which is nice. Just an observation on my part.

Yup, I've also stumbled upon this some time ago. TVs just look so damn good now, it's by far the #1 purchase in the setup for priority. Why don't you hook up your PC to the TV and give it a spin? Which TV is it btw?

Welcome to the monitor industry, where the same old basic LCD crap keeps getting milked year in and year out for ridiculous prices.....

Best gaming/hardware purchase I've ever made was the LG E7 55" OLED TV.

Also, regarding calibration, you'll actually find that most TVs when in the right preset are more accurate than any monitor on the market (with the exception of some dedicated pro/photography monitors), they are also capable of achieving far more due to their often FAR higher contrast ratios, much lower black depth, higher white point, higher bit depth etc. etc. and on top of this, TVs generally give you far more control over calibration/settings too.

Witcher 3 looks great on my monitor but even better again at 4K on my Samsung KS8000 so I can definitely see where you're coming from. The HDR will certainly make a big difference too.

Do the consoles output 10bit colour?

100% your monitor not setup to the same brightness/colour etc as your TV. Unfortunately no HDR but the high graphics detail settings achievable with a 1080ti will far surpass the xbox ox imo.

All of this is subjective of course depending on how important graphics detail is to you and how good your eye sight is XD

My E8 OLED and PS4/XBX looks miles better than my 27” monitor or any monitor I’ve ever had for that matter. At a distance with a controller, lag or 30/60hz is minimally noticed.

But saying that I still very much enjoy fps gaming on my 165hz monitor and it’s really it’s only use. Anything non fps goes on the OLED in 4k with a controller. Both PC and PS4 pro/XBX.

Plus I can watch excellent movies and TV on it. Because of it I doubt I’ll be upgrading my 27” acer until it dies.

The consoles only get used for exclusives. Play everything else on pc due to the increased power.

Welcome to the glorious console gaming master race :D

I still have my PC but with the advent of 4K capable consoles and fancy OLED 4K 50"+ TVs I've kind of given up on PC these days. Especially as PC component prices are ludicrous right now.

When Microsoft get round to adding mouse/keyboard support to Xbox I'll have zero reason to buy another PC.

Mouse @ 20-30 FPS ?

What monitor you got? Calibrate it. I have an oled lg and it looks amazing, but so does my Asus ..

I think it's the Acer x34. I've never calibrated a monitor. Ever. I really should shouldn't I?! How does one go about doing that? Does it make a big difference? I'm just lazy. It always looked amazing but I suppose TV tech has moved on. My TV is an LG OLED too

There's your answer then, awesome display. Even with a lowly 1070Ti I love gaming on the LG OLED, both PC and PS4P. PC pretty much only gets used for VR now as any monitor just looks dull/shallow in comparison to the OLED panel. If you've spent almost £1k on you monitor I'd definitely get it calibrated but once you've gamed on an OLED it's very hard to go back to a monitor, at least that's what I find anyway.

I don't think OLED woiuld be suitable as a main PC monitor would it, given burn-in issues with the Windows bar and icons? Fine for casual use, but probably not as your daily driver I'm guessing?
