Guess I'd best do an actual sensible thread then to break things up a bit.

I was rummaging through some of my old stuff the other day and found my old Walkman, Discman, Minidisc and loads of other goodies I used to use as a youngster. Kids nowadays will never know the magic of mixtapes, browsing CD shops for ages and listening to the CDs on the shop's headphones prior to laying down the cash. Same with DVDs. How many hours have most of us spent browsing DVDs at Blockbuster as kids, checking out the age restrictions on films and using every tactic in the book to try watch them?

I see kids on skateboards and roller blades occasionally so I guess there's still that, but what about BMX? And those Raleigh Choppers?

Nowadays it all seems to be tablets, phones and consoles, everything is on demand, I can't help but feel that today's yoofs are gonna be missing out on a lot of the magic we had as kids.

So what are the current gen youngsters gonna look back fondly on when they grow up?

(I don't have kids and most of my mates with kids all live far enough away that when we get together it's about us and the kids go to mum or whatever, so my exposure is rather limited).

Go on GD, enlighten me!

And happy Friday

Having to drive cars - only a matter of time before self driving cars are the norm.

Buying things outright - almost everything is available for a monthly payment now

I was going to post a similarish thread to this, must be that time of year, I.e nearing Christmas.

I was going to ask what people's memories were of the 90's and 2000's tech/internet as mine have become very vague or even non existent.

The ZX Spectrum was a key thing for me.

Nowadays, I guess what model of phone you had, the internet is not exactly new now so not much stands out.

It is an interesting question, in terms on TV we had many shared childhood programs due to the lack of choice whereas today this won't be the case as there is so much choice spread over numerous platforms.

I have a 21 month old son, I'd hope he has nostalgic memories of doing activities / toys but some of my great memories are of delta force and ultima online. Hopefully the world won't become too tech orientated but I suspect that it will.

90’s tech I’m nostalgic about.

Dial up Internet with the AOL you’ve got mail alert
Sony PS1 and 4 player gaming sessions on N64
Proper hi-fi’s. 4ft tall with CD, radio, tape deck, graphic equaliser and turntable.
Widescreen was new and all the rage, as was nicam stereo
Nokia banana phones
The birth of the pentium CPU

Every generation feels the way you do. Previous generations had the same concerns as you do about tablets and consumption but with CDs, TVs and mobile phones.

This is so true, there was a old dude i worked with and he loved this certain set of albums say 7 of them, he always played the same ones if he got chance at work, i always thought sad old bugger get some variety in and move on plenty of music out there lol.

This is now me ^^^^ LOL i am doing the same been listening to the same music 28 ish years maybe more for some it brings me back to great times and great memories.

Its just a big loop of life i suppose.

Getting a Gameboy for Christmas, my Dad walking in from work one day with a PS1 after telling me for weeks its too expensive and we're not getting one, and getting a Discman as a present for doing good in my SATS exams stand out for me!

Thomas the tank engine
PS1
Pokemon (cards and gameboy games)
Team Fortress Classic

For today's youth I think it will be more online related culture. Loads of them played Pokemon GO when that came out for example.

Flash games, shoot out cards, microstars, crazy bones, toxic waste, blue tongue monster munch to name a few.
